Marketing to Baby Boomers Online

June 15, 2008

Baby Boomers are generally a very hot target market in the United States at the moment due primarily to two simple reasons. The first would be the sheer size of the group with many sources stating the number to be around 76 million, while others estimate the total to be closer to 79 million.

marketing to baby boomers

Whether the total number of boomers is 76 or 79 million, they are a major population group in the country and one that controls the largest amount of money flowing through our system. Therefore, it would make sense that marketing to Baby Boomers would attract a lot of interest.

Since more and more Boomers are coming online today, reaching out to them via the web is a smart way to go. Here are some simple things that you should understand before putting your plan into action.

The internet is basically known as one giant database. Almost everything that happens on the web is a result of someone looking or “searching” for specific products or information. These searches are generally done using something called keywords.

Do You Know the #1 Thing Needed to Create a Successful Web Site Online???

Once a keyword is typed into a search engine like Google.com, Yahoo.com, or MSN.com, results are displayed that will lead the Boomer to a site that best matches what they want. So, with that in mind, it is important to use accurate keywords in order to attract the targeted readers that you want. There are a number of free resources on the web that will allow you to search for sample keywords that you can then use in headlines, articles, etc.

One popular, and free, keyword tool can be found at Wordtracker (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ ). They are simple to use and will quickly give you dozens of words and phrases that will assist in making your marketing efforts more effective.

Since we are talking about marketing to baby boomers online, we have included a pretty extensive list of potential keywords that can be freely used to reach this group. Some people tend to stick to one keyword or phrase while other marketers prefer to implement many different combinations. That choice is up to you.

Ultimately, it is believed that the use of keywords is still effective and that they will be around for a long time. If you want to attract people that are directly interested in your topic, it is a good idea to utilize keywords whenever possible.

I’m writing blogs for boomer consumers to help them get what they want in life. My most highly read articles so far are on reducing food costs, green gardening, grandparenting, retiring where it’s warm, buying a laptop, and plastic surgery cautions.

I write a boomer consumer blog called The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide at http://boomersurvive-thriveguide.typepad.com.

I write a reader blog called the Boomer Consumer for the Seattle Post Intelligencer at http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/boomerconsumer/.

    Great website for Baby Boomers!
As many Baby Boomers were or are smokers, I thought I’d share this link with you.
Please let me know what you think.
    Thanks!

    Al here, again.
I see that my post did not show the link.
    Here it is: http://PathsToHealth.blogspot.com

This is for anyone who smokes or cares about a smoker.
20 years ago, my father-in-law beat emphysema, COPD and arthritis in 6 weeks. He did this one alternative health treatment for only two months. His Doctor had given him 6 months to live. Had he not tried this treatment, he would have never known his seven precious grandkids.

I’m just starting my masters and AM a baby boomer!!! I[’m researching how baby boomers want to receive their healthcare information. Do we want traditional media such as newspaper, TV and radio ads? Is the internet becoming more prevalent for baby boomers? (finding all the subject matter gives me a good clue . . . but is the internet the best way to push information to the ‘boomers’? My research is focusing on the fact that the majority of baby boomers are NOT that computer and gadget savvy as the future health administrators will think they are.
I’m finding so much info on the internet, I’m now wondering how the rest of you boomers feel?

Please reply to my email address with your views and opinions.

Thanks, Caryla, the baby boomer graduate student!!!!

Got something to say?
