Fat Burning is the ticket to Oxygen Debt with Short Burst Training

October 29, 2008

You can not go on line now a days, with out seeing a new study coming out that confirms that being overweight and not doing proper exercise and cardiovascular fitness are two of the primary risk factors for many different health problems such as heart disease, Diabetes, respiratory disorders and many others. Being Baby Boomers it is even more important to us as our metabolisms have slowed down and we have gained some weight and inches since we were 20.

I bet that a lot of you have problems even getting to the gym, yet alone doing an hour on the stair master. So, for many of us one of the problems in trying to do exercise and cardiovascular fitness, is finding the time to go to the gym and do half an hour to an hour of grueling treadmill or stair-master exercises? Am I correct?

How would you like it if I told you that doing an exercise program that is as short as ten minutes, will actually get you better results? Could you fit ten minutes in? The good news is that there are actually exercise programs that don’t require any more time then that…

Of course, there are studies that compare both short burst work outs and long duration exercise and the results show that the short duration programs actually improve your exercise and cardiovascular fitness levels more efficiently.

When you do prolonged relatively low-level “cardio” like jogging, you force greater efficiency by downsizing your heart and lungs because smaller can go farther with less fuel. Like your car…big cars need more fuel and go less far than if you fill your econo car and get to go further. Make sense?

And here is the down side of being a Baby Boomer… your heart and lung capacities shrink with age, so long duration exercise only accelerates these negative changes of aging. This makes your body less able to cope with a sudden demand for a high capacity output. Thus, you can actually be more vulnerable to things like an unthinkable heart attack.

Did you know that when you do long term duration exercise your body slows down it’s overall, so your body burns less fuel. So. that makes it like eating a candy bar…empty calories. Actually this is the opposite of what you want when you’re trying to keep lean and fit.

Bottom line…short duration high burst exercise programs will actually burn more fat and improve your fitness levels more effectively than with the long, grueling cardio workout.

Here is an example: A sprint runner trains by doing short intense bursts of short runs, so he or she can build up strength and endurance.

When you do short bursts of more intense exercise your body will build up a oxygen debt and continues to repay it after you’ve stopped the exercise.

This all makes sense because our bodies weren’t created to do long duration exercise. And the health benefits of exercise, don’t have to be painful.

I used to be a runner, I know. I always felt better after a 1 or two mile run then longer. and my body always adjusted quicker as well. If I ran over 5 then I had to walk it off.

You can thank me later for this great info…just find the ten minutes once or twice a day to start being healthy. I suggest that you do one in the morning…that way you don’t forget…just set your clock 10 minutes early and DO NOT HIT THE SNOOZE BOTTON…that’s right give your brain some oxygen to start the day off. Eat breakfast and tell me at the end of your first week if you don’t feel better.

If you are having a problem with 10 minutes, start out with 4 and work your way up…remember you can do your short any time of the day and do them more than once. The health benefits of exercise is more than loosing fat, it will make you feel good , live longer, digest your food better and make u feel sexier, just to name a few. So, the benefits of cardio are not just fat burning.

Remember I am not a physician or a health club selling you a member ship…I only ask that you do at least 10 minutes of high capacity output, you decide if you want better health and reap the benifits of cardio exercise.
