Vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention, cure and treatment of certain diseases.
A vegetarian diet does not include meat, fish or fowl. And is actually a fast way to lose weight and eat smarter.
Interest in Vegetarianism appears to be increasing, with many restaurants, colleges, hospitals and even Airlines food services, offering vegetarian meals routinely. Therefore, a substantial growth in sales of foods attractive to vegetarians has occurred. And most supermarkets now have vegetarian products available.
The key nutrients for vegetarians, include protein, iron, zinc, calcium, vitamin D, riboflavin, vitamin B~–12, vitamin A, n~3 fatty acids and iodine. Vegetarians and Vegans, need all of these nutrients. And if needed fortified foods or supplements can be helpful in meeting those individual nutritional requirements, for good health.
In all stages of life, well planned Vegetarian and Vegan diets are appropriate, even pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence.
Vegetarian diets actually offer a number of wonderful nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals.
As a rule, Vegetarians usually have lower body mass, less heart disease, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure and also show lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.
If that doesn’t make you want to put down that steak knife, nothing will!
But remember Baby Boomers, menu planning for Vegetarians and Vegans can be simplified by using a food guide that specifies food groups and and most important serving sizes. So, be Vegetarian healthy and don’t forget raw vegetables in your diet meals.
If you do not stick to your diet, Vegetarian , Vegan or any other, there will be no quick way to lose weight.
The human body is a very sophisticated machine and you have to feed it the right things for it to run smoothly. Vegetarian or Vegan, eat smarter-lose more weight.
