Darker Berries=More Antioxidants

January 16, 2008

Acai, Boysenberries and Black Currants are dark berries, who like dark chocolate, are super foods and the extracts from these berries fight cancer, DNA damage, aging, and increase your bodies own antioxidants. So, the darker the berry the better the juice. All three of these berries can help fight Alzheimer’s disease, and probably improve that memory. So, if you are not getting your berries, try to pay close attention.

Baby Boomers, you don’t have to take my word for it…the University of Florida’s Research Center has done some astounding research on the little dark berry, called the Acai.

Along with these berries, let me mention chokeberries and elderberries. Your grand parents maybe made wine with them. You can still find these in wines and liquors, in liquor stores. Elderberries are had to find, because the birds get them. Those feathery rascals know what is good.

Still, these super berries are appearing more frequently in commercially prepared juices and other health food store products. You can also find jellies, jams, pies, breads, and even chutneys. Elderberry wine, is becoming more popular among wine makers so keep an eye out for it.

So remember, dark is excellent when we are talking about berries AND chocolate…lots of antioxidants. Drink them, cook with them and eat them raw. If you can’t find them fresh, look in the frozen section at your grocery store.

I have posted The Baby Boomer’s Beautiful Boysenberry’s Pie Recipe in my “Recipe Section.” Just thinking about it makes my mouth water…and makes me hungry.

I have a daily intake of berries twice a day. I drink Mona Vie and the Acai Berry is what has made a world of difference to me, my health and my battle against Lupus. It is truly the Super Food of the World, in my opinion. I wish I could drink a bottle of Mona Vie a day!
