Alaskan Investigator Releases Troopergate Report on Eve of Election Or Is That Eve Of Destruction

November 3, 2008

Timothy Petumenos, an independent investigator hired by the Alaska Personnel Board released the report detailing whether Alaska Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by firing her public safety commissioner.

Many of us have been waiting for this report. I know that I have. The fact that it was held till the tenth hour confuses me. Where there payoffs to hold it back, since the report has been documented? Will the polar bear poop finally fit the fan as with the case of Senator Ted Stevens?

A separate legislative panel earlier found that Governor Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, abused her office by allowing her husband and other staffers to pressure the public safety commissioner to fire a state trooper who went through a nasty divorce from Palin’s sister. She fired the commissioner, but denies it had anything to do with her x-brother-in-law, the Alaskan state trooper.

Personally, I find that hard to believe. I know I would go to bat for my sister…But then again, I am not a Governor

The Report just in…

Alaska’s Personnel Board concluded Monday that  Alaska Governor Sarah Palin did not violate ethics law by trying to get her ex~brother~in~law fired from the state police, contradicting an earlier investigation’s findings. “There is no probable cause to believe that the governor, or any other state official, violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters,” Timothy Petumenos, the Anchorage lawyer hired to conduct the investigation, wrote in his final report.

An earlier investigation launched by the state Legislature, led by legislative investigator Stephen Branchflowe, concluded Palin violated state ethics law by trying to get Wooten fired.

The law bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through an official action. It also concluded that Governor Sarah Palin firing of Monegan likely stemmed in part from his refusal to fire Wooten, but that Palin’s firing of Monegan was within her authority as governor.

Good thinking Gov. Palin to get your husband to do your dirty work for you. There are no statutes against him, now are there? Nor does he have to testify against you.

Governor Sarah Palin’s attorney, Thomas Van Flein, argued the Branchflower report had wrongly interpreted state ethics law.

Though the governor originally agreed to cooperate with the Legislature’s inquiry, she tried to stop the investigation once she became McCain’s running mate.

So, Baby Boomers…there we go, another “Wild Toad Ride.”
