Even though economic times are hard and many are scrambling to stay above water, the average stress level in the United States went down in 2011. Surveys show that on a scale of 10, a national survey show that they dropped a full point, from 6.2 to 5.2. So, stress strategies must work.
Why? Many think that we as a nation are getting used to living with constant stress. This is NOT good, Baby Boomers.
However, the flip side is that we are showing improvement at managing stress.
But, if you are not surviving your stress, why not try these Baby Boomer Tips to chill out?
How To Reduce The Tension Of Every Day Life-Free Stress Strategies
1. State the positive. Each night, focus on three good things that happened during the day and be grateful. Simply say “thanks and life is good.”
2. Try Meditation. Don’t know how? Then do 10 minutes of deep breathing at least two times a day.
3. Just like you used to give your kids, take a timeout. Step back and away from what ever it is that is making every muscle tense. Take at least a 10 minute time out.
4. Vent. Talk to someone close, even if it is your dog or cat. They are good listeners.

5. Mild exercise works. Try walking, dancing, lift weights, or yoga. Exercise can give you a break, plus it relieves some of stress’s bad biological effects. Not to mention that you could lose weight!
6. Just let it go. If there is that one person that always gets to you — just take a deep breath and move on. Remember that the person that you are letting off the hook or forgiving, is you.
7. Squeeze tight. That is right, Baby Boomers, tighten up every face and body muscle for at least 15 seconds, then slowly release, then repeat. Contraction to relaxation helps relieve tension.
8. Laugh. Laughter is the best medicine! Call your funniest friend, watch a comedy movie, watch crazy videos online, or read a joke book. What ever it takes you to laugh.

9. Play with your pet. Sounds simple enough, but it works. Stroking your four-legged friend lowers stress and blood pressure. If you do not have a four legged friend, go to the pound and save one.

10. Keep lavender and lemon around. This includes teas, sprays, oils or the real things. Their calming scents are proven to be relaxants.
11. Listen to some smoothing music. Or what ever music calms you down, even it it is rock and roll.
12. Try prayer. It is always positive thought.
