A new research shown in the British Journal of Cancer has shown that there is a link between pancreatic cancer and processed meat.

The study shows that for every 50-gram serving you have each day, the risk for pancreatic cancer increases 19 percent.

If that is not enough, colon cancer has been linked to eating processed meats.

According to Dr. Richard Besser, “Your life time risk of pancreatic cancer is 1.4 percent. You have a serving of processed meat per day, it goes up to 1.7 percent.”

“Still very small. We have always said don’t eat a lot of processed meats. If you want to cut down on that, look for products that do not have nitrites.”

The new research was from data from seven different studies, including more than 6,600 cases of pancreatic cancer.

Any physical will warn  you that there are other big risk factors for pancreatic cancer. They include:

* Diabetes

* Lack of Exercise

* Nitrates

* Obesity

* Processed Meats

* Smoking

For those of you who think that turkey bacon is healthier for you, think again. Because, more preservatives (nitrates) are needed in poultry than in pork.

Here is a research done in Sweden that says the same thing, that Processed Meats-Bacon-Sausage Are Linked To Cancer.

They found that for each 50 grams of processed meat eaten every day, there is a 19 per cent rise in the risk of developing pancreatic cancer compared to those who eat no processed meat.

Fifty grams is equal to one sausage or two slices of bacon.

“We found that processed meat consumption is associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancer,” said Associate Professor Susanna Larsson, the study’s author based at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.”

“The study, funded by the Swedish Cancer Foundation and Karolinska Institutet, found that the pancreatic cancer risk increased by 38 per cent and 57 per cent for people who eat 100 grams per day and 150 grams per day of processed meat respectively, compared to those who eat none.”

“Those who ate 100 grams per day had a 19 per cent higher risk of pancreatic cancer compared to those who eat 50 grams a day.”
