The Truth About Marijuana’s Medicinal Capacity

With the explosion of the Internet and the flow of impartial information (not from the government) that has enlightened the minds of millions of Americans, the old regime media, and the government, can no longer spread lies, ignore or deny the truth about marijuana’s medicinal capacity.
In fact, in a recent PBS documentary, marijuana is not shown as a gateway drug nor is it portrayed…as the destruction of today’s youth and society. Instead, it shows medical marijuana’s ability to alleviate pain, treat epilepsy, and even cure cancer.
What States Have Some Form of Medical Marijuana
There are 16 states, plus DC, that have some form of medical marijuana, with 6 states that have pending legislation to Legalize Medical Marijuana (as of August 4, 2011).

The Truth About Marijuana’s Medicinal Capacity
So, now DC and 22 states have got behind the cart, to push Medical Marijuana. That means that all Big Pharmaceuticals have to do is swoop in and take over, and for the tobacco companies to process it.
There are companies now, that freely synthesize and patent marijuana’s healing components, not necessarily for the plant itself to become legalized.
The PBS documentary is mostly positive in its portrayal of cannabis, but PBS report does show the other side of the coin when Dr. Eric Voth, Chair of the Institute on Global Drug Policy, a longtime, stanch, and very outspoken, opposition of medical marijuana.
BBAC found PBS’s documentary a compelling and very informative video, that may help to eventually turn the stigmatic tides of fear and superstition that the government has surrounded this taboo plant, for the last half of a century.

In the piece, a PBS interviewer speaks with an anonymous woman from Montana who has essentially cured her epilepsy by eating raw marijuana butter. The woman moved from her unidentified home state, which does not allow for the use of medicinal marijuana, where a law was passed in 2004 that permits doctors there to recommend medicinal marijuana to their patients.
“I used to be on approximately 14 different prescriptions and I would still have up to 12 seizures a day,” says the woman to the PBS reporter. “I used to take two handfuls of pills. No more. I’m not using [marijuana] to get any psychological effects off of it, I’m just eating the butter raw with bread.”
She goes on to say that she had tried virtually every anti-epileptic drug on the market, but to no avail. Of all the treatments she has tried, raw marijuana butter, which is completely natural and free of both toxic and synthetic additives, has been the only one to provide real benefits. And as an added bonus, there are no harmful side effects associated with the consumption of raw marijuana butter like there are with anti-epileptic drugs.
Conventional western medicine is unable to grasp the concept of synergistic medicine. Just as many holistic remedies and treatments are scorned and laughed at.
Dr. Voth’s basis’s his main argument against marijuana in the PBS video is that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not proven the plant to be safe and effective, therefore, it is not a real medicine.
But as most Baby Boomers know, it is not because marijuana is unsafe or ineffective…it is because whole marijuana cannot be patented by drug companies, which pay millions yearly to get their drugs approved.We all know that the pharmaceutical companies keep the FDA in business.
Very much like the 60′s saying, “What if there was a war and nobody came?” War would become outdated and impossible to get money for the government and arms suppliers and makers.
But before I digress…the most unacceptable and disturbing part of Dr. Voth’s attitude is his total failure to understand the concept of synergistic medicine, or the benefits of medical marijuana that can be derived from consuming a whole plant or herb rather than just its so-called legal (pharmaceuticals) “active components.”
Dr. Voth laments the fact that people who smoke or consume medical marijuana are exposing themselves to dozens of different cannabinoids and various other substances, rather than just an extract of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, for instance.
Now wrap your head around this…how can any drug company be sure what goes into each and every pill that you buy?
However, according to Dr. Donald Abrams, an oncology physician and professor of clinical medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), “Marijuana contains anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and probably anticancer compounds in it. I’m a cancer doctor and I often suggest to my patients that they consider marijuana for their loss of appetite, nausea, pain, depression, and insomnia. That’s one medicine they can use instead of five.”
Dr. Voth still insists that medical marijuana as we currently know it, is potentially dangerous, and the only way it should ever be used is in an isolated drug form.
This gives pharmaceutical companies the “get ready-get set…GO…to extract, manipulate, synthesize, and otherwise tamper with marijuana in its purest form. Of course to produce a patented version of marijuana’s active components.
Follow the money…it is all about big pharmaceuticals.
So, here comes the US Institute of Medicine and they have already confirmed that marijuana has medicinal properties.

Despite all the who-ha about the evils of marijuana, the solid truth still remains that whole marijuana has demonstrable medicinal properties, and though the plant works differently from western conventional medicine, it is still very effective without producing dangerous side effects like many, many pharmaceuticals.
As well, the US Institute of Medicine (IoM) has confirmed that marijuana in its natural form is therapeutic. Especially for epileptics, of which they have released two separate reports.
For you non-believers or those who want to know, view samples of those two IoM reports at these links:

According to PBS, based on numerous patents filed by drug companies for synthetic and isolated component versions of marijuana, the plant apparently has the ability to treat “almost everything.”
Medical Marijuana Benefits
Medical marijuana has the ability to treat:
* Multiple sclerosis (MS)
* Alzheimer’s disease
* Rheumatoid arthritis
* Parkinson’s disease
* Tourette’s
* Epilepsy
* Heart disease
* Obesity
* Mental illness
* Cancer
Now, is it perfectly clear why pharmaceutical companies want medical marijuana all to themselves because they know how effective it truly is…but more…because how much money it can make them.

From day one, pharmaceutical companies have done their best to effectively block medical marijuana legalization in whole form in the hopes that they can eventually corner the market on patented drug versions, which of course have the potential to reap billions and billions of dollars in new revenue.
