ADHD and Pesticides Are Now Linked

fruit ADHD and Pesticides Are Now Linked

According to U.S. Department of Agriculture, there are detectable levels of pesticides are present in a large number of fruits and vegetables sold in the U.S. So, it is no surprise that ADHD and Pesticides Are Now Linked.

You might be asking, “does my Child have ADHD?” They just might, with above average levels of this common pesticide byproduct, they will have twice ADHD risk.

Baby Boomers are questioning, “Is enough being done to protect us from chemicals that could harm us?” Well, you just might want to watch “Toxic America,” a special two night investigative report with respected CNN favorite doctor, Sanjay Gupta M.D., on June 2nd & 3rd, 2010, at 8 p.m., on ET, on your CNN channel.

A newly released study shows that children exposed to higher levels of a type of pesticide found in trace amounts on commercially grown fruit and vegetables are more likely to have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder than children with less exposure. I would imagine that this study could hold the same for adults who have sensitive systems or low immune system.

About The Research

Researchers measured the levels of pesticide byproducts in the urine of 1,139 children from across America, and guess what? Children with above average levels of one common byproduct had roughly twice the odds of getting a diagnosis of ADHD. This study appears in the journal Pediatrics.

Exposure to the pesticides, known as organophosphates, has all ready been linked to behavioral and cognitive problems with children, in the past, but previous studies have focused on communities of farm workers, their families and other high risk populations. This study is the first to examine the effects of exposure on America’s population at large.

Wiki describes ORGANOPHOSPHATE as: An organophosphate (sometimes abbreviated OP) is the general name for esters of phosphoric acid.

Phosphates are probably the most pervasive organophosphorus compounds. Many of the most important biochemicals are organophosphates, including DNA and RNA as well as many co-factors that are essential for life.

Organophosphates are also the basis of many insecticides, herbicides, and nerve gases.

Organophosphates are widely used as solvents, plasticizers, and EP additives.

In other words farmers are putting nerve gas on the products, to kill pests, that you buy and feed to your family. On thin skinned vegetables and fruits. you can not wash this poison off as it goes through the skin and into the product for you and your family to eat.

According to Maryse Bouchard, Ph.D., the lead author of the study and a researcher in the department of environmental and occupational health at the University of Montreal, “organophosphates are ‘designed‘ to have toxic effects on the nervous system. That is how they kill pests.”

Of course the makers of the pesticide state that “Direct cause and effect link “really are hard to establish.” Well, that is exactly what they want you to believe, since they have been poisoning us and our children and even our pets, for centuries. They would not admit to the fact, if their lives depended on it.

Granted that I am not a rocket scientist or a researcher in the department of environmental and occupational health, but I do have enough common sense to know that this is viable information that we should all listen to.

She continues with, “The pesticides act on a set of brain chemicals closely related to those involved in ADHD. So, it seems plausible that exposure to organophosphates could be associated with ADHD-like symptoms.”

Recently, BBAC posted an article that elaborates on what fruits and vegetables have a high count of pesticides. That article is “What Fruit and Vegetables Have Lower Pesticide Residues,” you might want to check it out.

Remember Baby Boomers live a healthy lifestyle, eat organic and at our stage of life, for men and women, we need vitamins.
