Texans Dig For Baby Gabriel In A Landfill in San Antonio, Texas. Gabriel Johnson, 8 months old, has been missing since December 26th, 2009.

The authorities have his mother held in  the case as she has stated that she killed him and also that she gave him away.

San Antonio authorities and Texans Dig For Baby Gabriel In A Landfill, where they are excavating the top 45 feet of landfill, after getting ta lead that that is where Baby Gabriel might be. The intensive excavation and search effort began Tuesday, February 9th, 2010, at a Texas landfill.
The last time the child was seen was in San Antonio, Texas, with his mother, Elizabeth Johnson.

“Let me say this, that we do remain hopeful that baby Gabriel is alive,” stated William McManus, chief of the San Antonio Police Department, at a news conference at the landfill (see video below).

“We are, however, conducting both a missing persons investigation as well as a homicide investigation,” he stated, adding that aspects surrounding Gabriel Johnson’s disappearance involve elements of a possible homicide.

Elizabeth Johnson, 23, told little Gabriel’s father that she killed the boy and has also stated that she gave him away to a couple in San Antonio, Texas. Authorities report that Ms. Johnson drove little Gabriel to San Antonio from Tempe, Arizona and then she went to Florida the week following.

Elizabeth Johnson was arrested in Florida and extradited to Maricopa County, Arizona, where she remains in custody. Her charges are kidnapping, custodial interference and child abuse.

The landfill search will not be easy, they are looking at least six days to remove 45 feet of garbage that has piled up since the time investigators believe evidence may have been dumped in the landfill.

Texans Dig For Baby Gabriel In Landfill and cadaver dogs will assist the search teams of more than 20, to find evidence and possibly baby Gabriel.  Search teams will look weekdays, during the time of  7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

San Antonio police have been working with the FBI and Tempe police. They have been looking at every lead and “chasing them down very, very vigorously.We are doing everything that we can to try to track down baby Gabriel, and hopefully we will find that baby alive,” McManus finished.

I can not imagine a baby in a landfill. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and their friends of little Baby Gabriel.
