Haiti Earthquake Update:Death Toll 200 Thousand

Haiti Earthquake Update:Death Toll 200 Thousand as angry protests over the slow arrival of aid flared on the rubble-strewn streets and cities.
It has been more than three weeks after the 7.0 scale earthquake rocked Haiti a small and poor Caribbean nation, leaving more than 200,000 people dead, another 300,000 injured, with 4,000 of those injures, amputates, 250,000 homes destroyed and 30,000 businesses lost.
Peoples lives are destroyed, lives were lost and the economy has hit the big crapper, in a nation whose economy has never accomplished.
Despite a massive aid operation assistance from world wide agencies and countries, a lack of coordination locally and the sheer extent of the damage that was done by the earthquake…the aid operation has been hampered the distribution of food and water leading to mounting tensions among a million people left homeless, has created upheaval and tension amongst the Haiti people. Who can blame them conditions are horrible.
“The Haitian government has done nothing for us, it has not given us any work. It has not given us the food we need,” stated Sandrac Baptiste , bitterly as she left her makeshift tent to join angry demonstrations Wednesday February 3rd, 2010,.
Protests have erupted after an unusually tense night in the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince, when shots were fired as around 300 people gathered outside the mayor’s office.
Tension is tense, as one protesters declares, “If the police fire on us, we are going to set things ablaze,” while raising a cement block above his head.
In an other area, an other 200 protesters marched toward the US embassy, crying out for food and aid.
Around 50 protesters also gathered late Tuesday outside the police headquarters where the Haitian government of President Rene Preval is temporarily installed.
It is no wonder that the people are protesting when their president has only spoken to the people a few times since the earthquake disaster struck. “Down with Preval. There are no tents! There is no food! Demonstrators shouted at their president.
Meanwhile…a group of US Christians will learn Thursday, February 4th, 2010 if they will be charged with trying to illegally take children out of the quake ravaged nation.
Ten Americans, trying to make a difference, from the Idaho based Baptist group New Life Children’s Refuge have been detained in Haiti since the weekend, when they tried to take 33 children out of Haiti, to neighboring Dominican Republic.
The case has drawn the attention of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who stated Wednesday, “It was “unfortunate that, whatever the motivation, that this group of Americans took matters into their own hands in trying to take the children across the border.. We are engaged in discussions with the Haitian government… and looking for the best way forward on this.”
Haiti Earthquake Update:Death Toll 200 Thousand and the UN chief, Ban Ki-moon, has asked former US president Bill Clinton to assume a leadership role in coordinating the international aid.
“The trick is to get the Haitian people back where they can stop living from day-to-day and start living from week-to-week or month-to-month and then start the long-term efforts,” Bill Clinton stated.
A quick fix of the devastation will not help Haiti. They need structures that will with stand earthquakes, tidal waves, the weather elements and hurricanes.
“Right now the Haitian people need good quality temporary accommodation and emergency relief. But we are also looking at how we can help people to rebuild their lives over the next three years, leaving Haiti better prepared for future natural disasters,” stated Brendan Gormley, chief executive of the Disasters Emergency Committee, a British aid umbrella group.
Right now, Haiti has one million homeless and the focus is on how to improve on the dire conditions in every day conditions.
If all of this is not enough, Marjorie Michel, the Haitian minister in charge of women’s affairs, stated that neighborhood committees were reporting a rise in the number of rapes in the tent camps, although women were reluctant to make formal complaints.
America, send our prisoners over there, that are low risk and let them help clean up and rebuild Haiti. Give them a purpose that is positive in their time served.

i have several relatives who were also vicitimized by the earthquake in Haiti. thank God that they were not seriously hurt. i hope and pray that Haiti would be able to recover soon from this disaster.
Best wishes towards your family members But, wouldn’t survivors be a better wording than victims? Personally, I would never want to be called a victim or be victimized. But, being a survivor gives me power over any situation.
Just a thought your way…along with good wishes for your family members.
