DC American Airlines Flight 331-Overshoots Jamaica Runway

DC American Airlines Flight 331-Overshoots Jamaica Runway and around 40 people were reportedly injured Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009.

American Airlines flight 331, from Washington, DC., ran off a runway at the Norman Manley International Airport, when landing in Jamaica.

Flight 331 was a Boeing 737-800. It was carrying 148 passengers and a crew of six when it overran the runway in Kingston, Jamaica. Kingston is the capital of Jamaica.

Injured passengers were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital and no fatalities have been reported.

DC American Airlines Flight 331-Overshoots Jamaica Runway and according to passengers…the twin jet plane “just slid off the runway. It went through a fence, over a road and ended on the beach and the plane broke into three or four pieces. “

Passengers had bumps, bruises and cuts and some passengers appeared to have “pretty bad injuries.”

A passing bus took some of the injured and emergency vehicles later arrived to assist those left behind..

No information on the cause of the incident, has been released. But, it was stated at the time that torrential rain had been falling in Jamaica for the past couple of days.

However, it was not known whether that played any role in the incident at Norman Manley International Airport.

Of course, in a statement from American Airline officials, “they are not going to speculate on possible causes of the incident.
