Holiday Drink Recipes-Heart Healthy Eggnog Recipe

Baby Boomer Queen’s Heart Healthy Eggnog Recipe

Hearth Healthy Eggnog…It must be a dream or an oxymoron, you are probably thinking. But it is neither. Granted many attempts at making a “heart healthy” eggnog and have failed miserable. This recipe does not lack a richness or the depth of flavor found in real eggnog.

One other plus…it is quick and easy eggnog recipe to make, Your prep time is only 5 minutes. it does need to refrigerate 3 hours before use, though.

This recipe produces a very satisfying and thick eggnog with almost no fat and has under 100 calories per 1/2 cup serving. Did you fall off that kitchen stool? Pretty cool, huh for a low carb eggnog?

As you know regular or traditional eggnog has an average of several hundred calories and over 10 grams of fat per serving.  Secret…if you don’t tell them they will never know. Some of the best secrets are those that aren’t told! Heart Healthy Eggnog…to some you might not mention it.

There have been many attempts at making a “heart healthy” eggnog using a wide variety of egg whites or egg substitutes, but they lack a richness and depth of flavor found in real eggnog. This recipe produces a very satisfying and rich eggnog with almost no fat and has under 100 calories per 1/2 cup serving. Compared to traditional eggnog with an average of several hundred calories and over 10 grams of fat per serving.

Heart Healthy Eggnog Ingredients:

1 tablespoon rum extract
Freshly grated nutmeg

Heath Healthy Eggnog Instructions:

Combine the milk, egg substitute, pudding, sugar, vanilla, and rum in a blender.

Process until smooth.

Chill for at least 3 hours.

Stir or shake well before serving.

Sprinkle the nutmeg on each serving.

This Hearth Healthy Eggnog Recipe Makes 8 Servings.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Chilling Time: 3 hours
Total Time: 3 hours, 5 minutes

Special Recipe Note:
These items are what make this Heat Healthy Eggnog seem like the real McCoy.
If you do not use them, the end results WILL NOT BE THE SAME.
Make sure to use a frozen egg substitute rather than a powdered or other substitute as the results will not be the same.

Make sure you freshly grate your nutmeg. It tastes 100% better.

This eggnog is made using pasteurized eggs, so has the added advantage of being safe for the elderly, children, or those with compromised immunity (Lupus survivors) with no danger of salmonella poisoning from raw eggs. I prefer brown, open range chicken eggs, but that is just my preference.

If you want to make your Eggnog an Adult Eggnog…just add the liquor of your choice. I like Captain Morgans’ Dark Rum.

This is the perfect low car holiday eggnog…for a Thanksgiving Eggnog or a Christmas Eggnog.

This Heart Healthy Eggnog stores well for up to 8 hours, but after that it starts to lose some of the thickness and body that makes for a great heart health eggnog…so drink up or use in your pancake recipe the following morning. It will give your pancakes a great flavor and no waste. It can also be used in cake, cupcake and bundt cakes. Let’s streeeeeeeeeetch that dollar, Baby Boomers.

Bon Appetit

Where do you get brown, open range pasteurized eggs?

  2. Beth says:

I use white pasteurized shell eggs — Davidson’s to be exact. The color of the eggshell means nothing, except that it was laid by a brown hen. And an open range chicken would be more likely (because of its indescriminate diet), I would think, to have salmonella bacteria and pass it along.
