1969 Alcatraz Takeover Changed the Course of History when in November, Native Americans occupied Alcatraz for 19 months and Baby Boomers remember forty years later.
American Indians wanted to focus on “broken treaties, broken promises.” Native Americans that occupied Alcatraz didn’t get their demands they did help end U.S. policy of tribal assimilation, bringing Indian issues to the forefront of the public awareness.
Alcatraz has been the center of many movies through the years and the site of horrible acts on those that where imprisoned there. It is a horrible place and still there are many who flock to the Island to see Alcatraz as a tourist trap.
