William Jefferson Sentenced To 13 Years For Corruption, during the time that he was a Louisiana congressman. He was brought down for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa.
The sentence handed down Friday, November 13th, 2009. He received 13 years, which was far less than the 27 years that the prosecutors had sought for William Jefferson, age 62.
The ex-congressman is a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans.
Agents investigating the case found $90,000 wrapped in foil and hidden in boxes of pie crusts in Jefferson’s freezer. I guess we can truly call that “cold cash.”
Jefferson was convicted earlier this year on charges including bribery and racketeering. Prosecutors state that he took in roughly $500,000 in bribes and sought millions more.
William Jefferson Sentenced To 13 Years For Corruption and if prosecutors had gotten the conviction they wanted of 27 years in prison, it would be the longest term ever imposed on a congressman convicted of bribery.
Williams defense wanted less than 10 years and hopes that Jefferson can remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction.

You know by putting this fellow in jail we have to pay. Why just make him do some work for community and pay back all that he stole but I mean a really dirty job in jail he gets three meals a day medical and place to sleep on the tax payers back.
None of this makes any sense to me at all and that is a fact.
