Connecticut Chimp Victim Seeks to Sue State and plans on a $150 million lawsuit against the state.
The legal team representing Charla Nash filed a notice Wednesday, November 4th, 2009, with the state’s Office of Claims Commissioner asking for permission to sue the state.
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal states that his office is reviewing a claim and that he is sympathetic to Nash for what he called a “horrific tragedy.”
The incident occurred on February 16th, 2009, when Travis, a 200 pound chimpanzee, attacked Nash, while she was at her friend, Sandra Herolds’ Stamford home.
Ms. Nash has lost her hands, nose, lips and eyes in the brutal attack and is facing at least 2 years of surgical procedures, form the chimps’ attack.
A Department of Environmental Protection biologist warned state officials before Nashs’ attack that the chimpanzee Travis could seriously injure someone if he ever felt threatened.
Connecticut Chimp Victim To Sue State and the family of Ms. Nash, has already launched a $50 million lawsuit against Travis the chimps’ owner, Sandra Herold.
Part of that suit alleges that Sandra Herold had given the animal medication that may have upset him. For her part, Herold has given conflicting accounts (or save my ass accounts) of whether Travis had ingested Xanax the day of the attack.
Herold could face possible criminal charges. Her story to authorities is that she called Nash to her home in February to see if she could help lure Travis back into the house.
For some reason, her chimp began attacking Nash. It has been speculated that the chimp was trying to protect his owner and didn’t recognize Nash because she had a different hair style.
The brutal chimp attack finally came to an end when police shot Travis and killed him, as he attempted to get inside their police car.
Connecticut Chimp Victim To Sue State and I for one do not blame her. The state was warned…Harold was allowed to keep the chimpanzee and now Ms. Nash is missing her hands, nose, lips and eyes from the brutal attack.
