UPDATE: 13 Killed In Fort Hood Shootings and 30 people were injured. Some victims are in serious condition. The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. CT. November 5th, 2009.

I have read conflicting reports. One story says that Hasan took his own life. Another says that he was killed.

But, here is what has happened. As civilians we really do not know what took place as there is a lock down on communication going off the base.

What is known is that on Thursday, November 5th, 2009, a military personal open fire in a processing center. That person was Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39.

Licensed in Virginia. Major Hasan was a psychiatrist who previously worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center but more recently was practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood

Two other soldiers were immediately detained, but have been released,  another person of interest is still in custody.

Maj. Hasan is a U.S. citizen of Jordanian descent, though the source was uncertain whether he was born in the United States. Hasan was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq and apparently was upset about his deployment.

The shootings victims were 10 American soldiers, a civilian police officer who was working as a contractor on the base and Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan.

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan had two weapons, both handguns, that he used in the attack.

13 Killed In Fort Hood Shootings was a shock to all of America. Here is what President Obama said:

President Obama called the shootings “tragic” and “a horrific outburst of violence.” He expressed his condolences for the shooting victims. “These are men and women who have made the selfless and courageous decision to risk, and at times give, their lives to protect the rest of us on a daily basis. It’s difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas. It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American soil.”

Fort Hood, which is the Army’s largest U.S. post and is currently holding about 40,000 troops. It is home to the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division and elements of the 4th Infantry Division, as well as the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 13th Corps Support Command. It is located near Killeen, Texas.

BBAC sends it;s condolences out to the friends and family of those lost today at Fort Hood.
