UPDATE:11th Body Found At Ohio Serial Rapist Murderers’ House or at least a head in a bucket.

Even though the smell permeated the Cleveland, Ohio neighborhood where the 11 bodies were found, authorities never acted on complaints.

A Cleveland judge denied bond for Anthony Sowell and the judge stated that the latest allegations against him are “gruesome” and the ‘most serious’ he has heard in his years on the bench.

This man should never see the light of day again. He is possibly Clevelands’ worst serial rapist killer in history.

The first woman to be identified is Tonia Carmichael, 52. She was last seen on November 10th, 2008, according to the authorities. She disappeared from Warrensville Heights, which is a Cleveland suburb near Anthony Sowell’s house, and her vehicle was found in Cleveland. She was never seen again.

“We used to think that it was coming from out of Ray’s Sausage. But you smell these smells, and I live right there and…we used to come out here and oh, these smells would just be horrible,” stated a neighbor.

Ray’s Sausage Co. was thought to have been the problem  of the stench and so they replaced a sewer line and grease traps, trying to rid the area of the stench. But, little did the neighbors know…it was not Ray’s but Anthony Sowells’ dead bodies.

Eleven victims have been found inside and outside a home adjacent to Sowells’. Six bodies found inside and five bodies were found outside. The 11th body was identified as a skull, wrapped in a paper bag and stuffed into a bucket in the basement. She was decapitated

Anthony Sowell, 50, is a registered sex offender. Now, Sowell is facing five counts of aggravated murder, rape, felonious assault and kidnapping and there will be more charges, more serious charges.

According to the autopsy, seven of the victims died from strangulation by a ligature, A ligature can include a string, cord or wire. All of the seven still had something tied around their necks, according to Frank Miller, Cuyahoga County coroner.

An eighth victim died from manual strangulation, which is strangulation by hands. Two other bodies were too badly decomposed to determine the cause of death. Miller stated that he believes they were victims of “homicidal violence.” Autopsy results on the 11th victim is still pending.

Authorities believe that most likely all of the victims were killed by strangulation.

In the missing persons report, Tonia Carmichael’s mother, Barbara, told authorities that her daughter was addicted to crack and had previously disappeared for several days at a time. She thought that something had happened to Tonia because she had not picked up two paychecks.

Tonia Carmichael’s daughter, Danita, states that the identification did not come as a surprise.

“This is what I’ve been saying since Monday, when, you know, we were called to the coroner’s office and since this story broke, we automatically knew that this was going to be her,” Danita Carmichael stated.

Asked how her grandmother was holding up, she stated, “As you can imagine, it’s heartbreaking for the whole family, but this was her child. This was her daughter, her angel, her princess, and now we will never see her again. She’s gone.”

Some of the victims could have been missing for up to five years, Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath states, and he doesn’t believe authorities were able to discern any pattern relating to the disappearance of African American women.

Cleveland police Lt. Thomas Stacho states that, “police will execute a warrant later Wednesday, November 4th,2009, for Sowell’s DNA, to enter it into the known national DNA database.

Earlier, authorities stated that they had no information about the smell in the area before the bodies were found.

“You could smell it,” said another neighborhood woman. “I came around the corner and I smell it. You could smell the dead bodies. How are you going to tell me people in the neighborhood couldn’t smell that?”

Kathleen Demetz, the public defender representing Sowell, asked that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

DAHHHhhhhh.

She also stated that Sowell, an ex-Marine, has a heart condition and wears a pacemaker.

Well. apparently killing women doesn’t bother his heart.

Anthony Sowell told the authorities that he had been collecting unemployment payments since being laid off from his job two years ago. No one knows what that job specifically was.

Authorities in Coronado, California, also were checking to see if Anthony Sowell might be responsible to a rape case there.

Here Is What Finally Broke The Case

Police initially went to Sowell’s home last Thursday, October 29th, 2009, to follow up on a rape accusation. A week earlier, neighbors reported seeing a naked woman fall from the second floor, but no charges were filed then.

Neighbors called 911 after the October 20th, 2009, incident, and emergency personnel, but not the police. Firefighters later notified police, who responded to the hospital where the woman was taken, and she told officers that she was at the home and “partying,” he said. “They were doing coke, drugs, getting high.” The woman said she was on an upper balcony and fell off the roof while trying to pick up her keys. A man described as her boy friend, Sowell, told police the same story.

“At any point, that gal could have said, ‘Hey, wait a minute,’ but she did not,” authorities stated.
She was probably afraid to talk to police since drugs were involved.

Sowell was arrested Saturday, two days after police discovered the first bodies inside and outside the home. he was walking around police station collecting scrap metal.

Sowell is a convict rapist, he was charged with a 1989 rape, but pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted rape under a plea agreement, court records show. He was imprisoned from 1990 to 2005. Since his release from prison he was listed as living at the Cleveland home where the bodies were found.

Authorities from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office state that they checked on Sowell regularly, with the most recent check coming on September 22nd, 2009, to confirm his address, McGrath said. They found no problems. Well, I guess they don’t have the sense of smell and don’t know what dead bodies or a dead body smells like.

I think they can claim ignorance and neglect. Other wise this house of horrors would not have continued.

Police only began to get suspicious of Sowell about a month ago, when neighbors called 911 when a woman, naked jumped from the second story, and that woman who escaped from Sowell, accused him of rape and assault. The authorities…and only then…obtained the warrants that set off the search after getting the accusation of the witness.
