Somer Thompson’s body has been identified through a birth mark and her dental records.

Investigators in Georgia are still combing through a ton of garbage at a landfill, searching for clues to the murder of little Somer Thompson, age 7. They have found some clues, but they are not releasing those findings, yet.

Somer Thompson, 7, was last seen Monday, October 19th, 2009, on her way home from school on the sidewalk in front of a vacant house that is being renovated after a fire.

Authorities found the Somer’s body Wednesday, October 21st, 2009, in the landfill near Folkston, about 55 miles north of Orange Park, Florida.

“Since Monday, we have been trying to figure out who frequents that area,” including anyone working on the home,” state Florida authorities and they are treating Somer’s death as a homicide.

“We know the cause of death. Our focus is on, we want to preserve the integrity of this investigation and are not releasing any information that in the long run would prevent us from prosecuting and convicting the person who did this to Somer. For that reason, at no point will we discuss cause of death, the manner in which she died or any other details regarding what was done to this child,” spokesperson, Mary Justino stated at a news conference.

What is being released is that Somer’s 10 year old sister told police that Somer had been in a fight with another girl at school, that same day. The sister stated that she brought up the subject while she and her brother walked Somer home from school, and Somer ran off, apparently upset.

The Somer’s sister stated that, “she lost sight of Somer in a group of other children leaving the school,” according to an official police report released Thursday, October 22nd, 2000.

So far, there have been around 900 leads, called into a tip line, and detectives have interviewed 90 registered sex offenders or predators within a 5 mile area of the Thompson home.

My heart and tears to Somers and Elizabeth families! This piece of garbage that has done this to you will pay . Im wondering if it could be the same person? I also was wondering if the kids Somer was with may have seen any thing(a car , strange person )? People like this need not live, we as the public need to see these killers put to death. Russias most notorious child killer was tried and put to death and there were no appeals just a bullet to the head. Their brain doesnt need to be looked at and studied and their families shouldnt be sensationalized, thats just sick.
I hope they give the families of these fallen girls an hour with you peices of scum when they catch you. And you will be caught !!

What is there to say? Get the hell out of Florida. It seems to be a breeding ground for child abusers, child molesters, child rapists, child killers. Am I wrong? Almost every story about any of these crimes comes out of Florida. Now people see why I will never visit Florida, let alone live there. I never understood the attraction to that place. Their economy sucks. People can’t get out fast enough. People are rude. People kill their own children. People kill other children and leave them in dumps. Unbelievable. How long are you people of Florida going to put up with it? When is it going to be enough? I live in Hawaii. Things like that are unheard of here. Child molesters and child killers are not welcome here, and found out immediately before they can do any harm to our children. Get your act together Florida. Quit making it ok for those predators to live there. Otherwise, start executing these losers, or move all the decent people out and just make it a state exclusively for criminals. They started it with the Cuban boatlift exodus of criminals years ago. Not to mention the drug traffickers who use Florida as their base. Nice place you have there. I’m just so glad you’re on that side of the country, and we’re far away from that mess you created. Good luck with that.

  3. The reason that there is so much about Florida, is that I live here…this type of hideous acts go on all over the U.S. and all over the world.

Babies are not protected enough they should not be walking home from school because of this happening more and more and that is a fact.

There should be an assignmnet that everyday they should gather the children that have nobody to take them home one of the teachers or parents should be assigned to drive them home safely and drop them off at their door everyday.

That is a NO BRAINER let us see if that could happen and our babies would be far safer.

MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF THE BABIES THAT WALK HOME FROM SCHOOL EVERDAY NOW AND FOR ALL TIME!!!
