Baby Boomer Men At Higher Risk For Hearing Loss resulting from work equipment, motorcycles to lawn mowers, life is full of noise, but new research shows that it presents a bigger danger for some Baby Boomers than others.
According to a new study, driving a convertible for long periods of time may put you at risk for hearing loss.
That study of over 5,000 people in America, ages 20 to 69, found that males were three times as likely to have noise related hearing loss than women do.
Occupational and recreational noise exposure and those in the armed forces, are likely situations for why men are at greater risk to lose their hearing.
Many having hearing problems stem from music at concerts or night clubs, outdoor activities with “powered tools” such as chain saws and motorcycles.
Dr. Douglas Mattox, professor of otolaryngology at Emory University School of Medicine, believes that people who regularly use leaf-blowers, lawnmowers and other noisy machinery are at increased risk of noise induced hearing loss, he said. Activities such as hunting and motorcycle riding, which men typically do more than women, also create high levels of noise that may impair hearing. So, wear your ear plugs, Baby Boomers.
