Gen. David Petraeus Treated For Prostate Cancer, early stage prostate cancer in February of 2009, says recent screening tests have delivered are positive.

Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. military commander in the Middle East, has been treated for early stage prostate cancer and says recent PSA tests have come back with “very positive” news.

Gen. David Petraeus, 56, was diagnosed back in February of 2009, and underwent two months of radiation treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

“My cancer was caught very early. I’ve had two PSA tests since completing treatment five months ago, and they’ve both been very positive. Surgery to remove the prostate was not an option due to plates/screws that were used to repair my pelvis after it was fractured in a parachuting accident,” stated Petraeus.

Gen. David Petraeus Treated For Prostate Cancer and during his treatment time of two months,  Petraeus did travel at least once for an overseas trip during his radiation treatment.

In a statement that was released from his office…he stated that he regarded his illness as a personal matter and kept it off the records, because it did not interfere with his duties.

The president, vice president, secretaries of state and defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff were notified of Petraeus’ condition of early stages of cancer of the prostate, and were briefed during his treatment.

Gen. David Petraeus leads U.S. Central Command and is the overall head of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
