Typhoon and Floods Threaten Philippines and Vietnam, with the biggest floods in decades to threaten Vietnam’s central provinces Wednesday, September, 30th, 2009.

The floods follow, a powerful typhoon that swept into the country after wreaking havoc in the Philippines, costing lives and millions of dollars in it’s wake.

So far, the Vietnam government has reported 41 people dead and 10 people missing in floods and landslides in eight coastal and central highland provinces of Vietnam.

Typhoon and Floods Threaten Philippines and Vietnam as river waters in Quang Nam province could reach a level that was last seen in 1964 by nightfall, causing the worst floods in three decades.

Reports coming in from the area say that from the air, one can see many areas around Danang being isolated by floods and where the sea waves pounded the road along Danang’s beach. There are several ships beached on shore.

Typhoon Ketsana slammed into Vietnam late on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009, dumping torrencial rain across central Vietnam, leaving 294,000 homes destroyed, damaged or submerged by floods.

Almost 357,000 people in 10 provinces were evacuated for Typhoon Ketsana. The Vietnam region hit hardest by Typhoon Ketsana lies far north of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta rice basket.

The rains that hit the Central Highlands coffee belt could easily delay the start of this years coffee harvest by up to 10 days.

Typhoon Ketsana weakened to a tropical storm after moving into Laos and Cambodia on Tuesday evening, but still caused significant damage.

Quang Ngai province is where Vietnam’s first oil refinery, Dung Quat is located. It was sited to be reopened on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009, after an outage that shut the plant’s test runs down, just last month.

Typhoon and Floods Threaten Philippines and Vietnam and over the next several days, the global meteorologists are still watching the weather, which still have the capabilities to have a potential affect on the Philippines and Vietnam.
