Filmmaker Roman Polanski Arrested In Switzerland On Rape Charges, Roman Polanski has been arrested in Switzerland on an arrest warrant issued 31 years ago in connection with a rape charge.

Back in 1977, Academy Award winning director, Roman Polanski, pleaded guilty in 1977 to having sex with a 13 year old girl in America, but fled the country before he could be sentenced. Polanski fled to France, where he was born.

Authorities in the United States issued a warrant for Polanski arrest in 1978, for skipping bail.

According to Zurich authorities, Roman Polanski was taken into custody on Saturday, September 26th, 2009. He was en route to the Zurich Film Festival, which was holding a tribute to him, when he was arrested by Swiss authorities.

Roman Polanski has lived in France for decades to avoid being arrested if he enters the U.S. To deter his arrest, he declined to collect his Academy Award for Best Director in person when he won the Academy Award for “The Pianist” in 2003.

Most Baby Boomers will remember Roman Polanski for his films “Tess,” “Chinatown,” and for “Rosemary’s Baby.”

Rosemary’s Baby scared me to death…it was like Jaws and The Exorcist, to me.

The film festival released in a statement that, “Roman Polanski, who is one of the greatest film directors of all time, would have been honored for his life’s work in Zurich today.”

“However yesterday, on Saturday, he was taken into custody while attempting to enter Switzerland due to a request by U.S. authorities in connection with an arrest warrant from 1978.”

Roman Polanski Arrested In Switzerland On Rape Charges from an 1977 charge of plying a 13 year old girl with champagne and a sliver of a quaalude tablet, then performing various sex acts, including intercourse, with her during a photo shoot at actor Jack Nicholson’s house.

Wait a minute Baby Boomers…it gets worse…

Jack Nicholson was not at home, but actress Anjelica Huston, his girlfriend at the time, was there.

“She appeared to be one of those kind of little chicks between…could be any age up to 25. She did not look like a 13 year old scared little thing,” Huston stated.

She did add that, “Polanski does not strike me as the type of man who would force himself on a young girl. I don’t think he’s a bad man, I think he’s an unhappy man.”

At the time, Roman Polanski pleaded guilty to a single count of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

There have been repeated attempts to settle the case over the years, but the sticking point has always been Polanski’s refusal to return to attend any hearings or charges.

Roman Polanski Arrested In Switzerland On Rape Charges, because authorities have consistently stated that it would be a huge miscarriage of justice to allow a man to go free who “drugged and raped a 13 year old child.” They have not given up on his arrest and conviction after almost 32 years. The victim should be at least 44 years old, now.

Roman Polanski’s lawyers are still trying to have the charges throw out. Earlier this year, they once again tried to have the charges thrown out, but a Los Angeles judge denied the action.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza did leave the door open to reconsider his ruling if Polanski shows up in court, stating that there appeared to be problems with the way the Polanski’s case was handled 31 years ago.

Polanski’s victim is among those calling for the case to be tossed out and her attorney, Larry Silver, stated that, “he was disappointed in the ruling and that Espinoza “did not get to the merits and consider the clear proof of both judicial and prosecutorial corruption.”

His argument in court was that had “Mr. Polanski been treated fairly” his client would not still be suffering because of publicity, almost 32 years after the crime.

Isn’t it odd that Roman Polanski was arrested two days after one of his wife, Sharon Tate killers, Susan Adkins died. Susan Atkins, 61, died Thursday, September 25th, 2009. She had been suffering from terminal brain cancer. She died in prison.

The director’s pregnant wife, actress Sharon Tate, and four others were butchered by members of the “Manson Family” in August of 1969.

By her own admission, Susan Atkins held Roman Polanski’s wife, who was eight and one half months pregnant, Sharon Tate, 26, down as she pleaded for mercy, stabbing her and the baby 16 times. Then writing “PIGS” on the door with her blood.

  1. Manson follower Susan Atkins who had killed Roman Polanski’s wife, Sharon Tate died a couple of days ago and now this announced arrest of Roman Polanski.

What I can’t understand is, how did Polanski manage to evade the law all these years with the so called technology of cameras and GPS, etc. There is just NO way that one can hide from the law with all of technology that is out there.

Something is just screwy here. I think the authorities DID know where he was hiding all these years. And one has to question as to why did they decide to arrest him NOW and not arrest him from years ago? Not to mention that this is going to cost taxpayers money for a trial that will drag on for years.

This is another example of how there is no such thing as “justice” in the justice system in the USA. Criminals go free while the innocent and victims get sent to prison.

Sure the French support him. Most of the men there think its all right to have sex with 13 year old girls.

  3. Abbee Lee says:

Yes, Roman did admit he had sex with the 13 year old girl; however, he was not charged with rape. … what he did was wrong, even if it was long ago, he still was made responsible for this…

  4. Lisa Stone says:

He should be held accountable for his actions.
