New Giant Rat Species Discovered

The newly discovered rat is similar in size and weight to this one found by scientists in 2007.

A New Giant Rat Species Discovered in a remote Rain Forest in Papua New Guinea.

The newly discovered rat is about 82 centimeters (32.2 inches) from nose to tail and weighing around 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds), the species is thought to be one of the largest rats ever to be found.

The discovery was made by a team from the BBC Natural History Unit inside the crater of Mount Bosavi, which is an extinct volcano in the Southern Highlands province of Papua New Guinea.

New Giant Rat Species Discovered and the initial examination of the rat, called a Bosavi Woolly Rat, suggests that it belongs to the Mallomys species, a genus of rodents in the muridae family which are the largest living species of rodents. YIPES!

In 2007, there was a similar species of giant rat was found over in the Foja Mountains, in Papua New Guinea’s Mamberamo Basin.

If this rat ever gets to New York, we are in BIG trouble. Personally, I hate rats and rodents…I don’t even like squirrels.

Why is it that cats are getting smaller and the rats are getting bigger??? What is wrong with this picture?

The team from the BBC Natural History Unit that was in an extinct volcano in Papua New Guinea not only discovered the new species of giant woolly rat, but a frog with fangs, and around 40 other exotic creatures unknown to science. YIPES again…a frog with fangs.
