This is the same “Manson Family” member Susan Atkins, who stabbed actress Sharon Tate 16 times and caused her death and the life of her unborn baby, more than 40 years ago.

Susan Adkins, 61 is terminally ill, with brain cancer attended her 13th parole and was rejected her request for freedom. Her hearing lasted nine hours and was held at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla, California.

“The parole panel set another hearing for Atkins in three years,” said Michele Kane, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Baby Boomers remember when Susan Atkins was 21, and she and other followers of Charles Manson participated in a two night rampage that left seven people dead and terrorized the city of Los Angeles in August of 1969.

Susan Adkins and Charles Manson, Leslie Van Houten, Patricia Krenwinkel and Charles “Tex” Watson, were initially sentenced to death in the slayings of five people, including Sharon Tate, and two additional deaths the following night.

All of their sentences were automatically commuted to life in prison when the Supreme Court struck down the nation’s death penalty laws in 1972.

By her own admission, Susan Atkins, known as Sadie Mae Glutz within the Manson family, held Sharon Tate down as she pleaded for mercy, and stabbed the beautiful famous actress 16 times. Sharon Tate was eight months pregnant at the time and begged for her life and the life of her unborn child.

In a 1993 parole board hearing, Susan Atkins stated that, “Tate ‘asked me to let her baby live. … I told her I didn’t have any mercy on her’.”

Atkins then scrawled the word “pig” in Sharon Tate’s blood on the door of the home Tate shared with her husband, director Roman Polanski. The only reason that Roman Polanski’s life was spared was because he was not home at the time.

However, Sharon Tate had three house guests that fatal night and they were also slain by the killers. One of those victims was a teenager who was visiting the home’s caretaker in his nearby cottage.

Earlier this year, Susan Atkins was noted as being paralyzed over 85 percent of her body. She can not sit up in bed or be moved into a wheelchair, according to a Web site kept up by her husband and attorney, James Whitehouse.

she has been described as a model prisoner. A little too late, she now has accepted responsibility for her role in the slayings and now shuns Charles Manson.

Sharon Tate’s sister, Debra Tate, is still an advocate against any Manson Family member convicted of murder should ever be set free, saying the slayings were “so vicious, so inhumane, so depraved, that there is no turning back.”

“The ‘Manson Family’ murderers are sociopaths, and from that, they can never be rehabilitated. They should all stay right where they are…in prison…until they die. There will never be true justice for my sister Sharon and the other victims of the ‘Manson Family.’ Keeping the murderers in prison is the least we, as a society who values justice, can do,” states Debra Tate.

Some people think that Susan Atkins should receive compassion because she is so ill. Personally, I think Susan Atkins became terminally ill when she took a life and gave her soul to Charles Mason. She is right where she needs to be, in prison.

Terrorists, bombers, mass murderers, rapists, should never see the outside of prisons. They do not belong to walk amongst us. They are terminally ill and need to be kept locked up. How do you feel, Baby Boomers?

I doubt that Susan Atkins will make it to her next parole, which means that she will die in prison. She has lived more than 40 years…after she murdered or accompanied those in a surge of death and destruction and ruined the  lives of those who were affected by what she did more than 40 years ago. That can not be taken away, it is history.
