Florida Mom and Man Charged In Tot’s Python Death. The mother and her boyfriend (he owned the 8.5-Foot Burmese Python), were arrested Monday, August 24th, 2009, in connection to the death a 2 year old girl that was strangled by a python, back in July of 2009, little Shaunnia Hare.
Jaren Hare and Charles Darnell were arrested on charges of manslaughter, third-degree murder and child abuse in the death of Shaunnia Hare, who was killed by an 8.5 python, in July of 2009, in Oxford, Florida.
Florida Mom and Man Charged In Tot’s Python Death and Jaren Hare surrendered to the authorities today and and Darnell was already in jail on unrelated drug charges. Both are both being held on $35,000 bond.
It was Darnell who woke up at a residence in the 1500 block of county Road 466 in Oxford (that is about 60 miles northwest of Orlando), to find Shaunnia being strangled by his 8.5-foot pet albino Burmese python.
There was also a 6 foot Boa constrictor in the house but he was in his aquarium.
Authorities stated that, ” there were several bite marks on the toddler and that little Shaunnia had been strangled by the python.
Darnell did not have a permit to keep the snake as a pet. Florida law is quite specific about Burmese python owners and how they keep their pets.

It is about time that happened but knowing the law as I do nothing will happen to them because they didn’t mean to do it but at the very least they will have a record.
