Stills Disease…
When one thinks about Stills Disease they usually think about juvenile arthritis.
What Is Stills Disease?
Still’s Disease is a form of arthritis that is characterized by high spiking fevers and salmon colored rashes.
Still’s Disease was first known as a child’s disease, but it is now known to occur, much less commonly, in adults. That is referred to as adult-onset Still’s disease.
What Is Stills Disease?
Truth be know they really do not know. Some think that Still’s disease is due to infection with a microbe. While another concept is that Still’s disease is a hypersensitive or autoimmune disorder, like Lupus, which is also part of the arthritis family.
What Are The Symptoms Of Still Disease?
* Adults and children with Still’s Disease usually present with systemic symptoms, all over their body.
* Extreme fatigue can also be accompanied with waves of high fevers that rise to 104 degrees F (41 degrees C) or even higher and then surprisingly, return to normal levels or below. This can happen quite rapidly.
* A faint salmon colored skin rash characteristically comes and goes and surprisingly, most do not itch.
* There can be swelling of the lymph glands, enlargement of the spleen and liver, and sore throat.
* Many affected, develop inflammation of the lungs like pleuritis or around the heart, called pericarditis.
* There is occasional fluid accumulation around the lungs (pleural effusion) or heart (pericardial effusion).
Many physicians initially over look arthritis because of the impressive nature of the systemic symptoms, everyone with Still’s Disease eventually develops joint pain and swelling. When this happens, it usually involves many joints (polyarticular arthritis). Any joint can be affected, although there are preferential patterns of joint involvement in Still’s Disease.Once again these symptoms are very much like Lupus.
