2009 Hurricane Season-Hurricane Felicia Hawaii.
Hurricane Felicia has intensified over the Pacific Ocean, strengthening to a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 140 miles (220 kilometers) per hour.

The center of the storm was located about 1,455 miles (2,350 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of the Mexican state of Baja California. Felicia is moving in a northwesterly direction and expected to strike near the Hawaiian islands, potentially making landfall around Monday, August 10th, 2009.

Hopefully, Felicia’s journey over Pacific waters will weaken the storm, though it will still bring rain and some great surfing waves.

Most likely, Alicia is near peak intensity and hurricane centers are predictng that it will weaken in the next couple of days.

…But…As we all know…they have been wrong in recent hurricane seasons. For Hawaii’s sake, I hope that they are right this time.

“If anything, it will be a rain-making system over the islands,” states Richard Knabb, deputy director of the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

Earlier in this week, a hurricane forecasting team at Colorado State University, issued a slightly lower storm prediction for storms forming in the Atlantic Ocean.

The hurricane season started off with their prediction of 11 named storms, five hurricanes and two major hurricanes.

Now…They have 10 named storms in the Atlantic, four of them hurricanes and two of them major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher. That means that they would will be packing winds of at least 111 mph.

Let’s hope that the 2009 Hurricane Season-Hurricane Felicia Hawaii, slows down before it hits Hawaii. The hurricane season began on June 1st and runs through November 30th for the year of 2009. Being from Florida, I always keep an eye out…on the weather.
