Obama Picks Surgeon General-Dr. Regina Benjamin and his choice was announced Monday, July 13th, 2009.
Dr. Regina Benjamin, 52, is a family practicioner, who has spent most of her career tending to the needs of poor patients in a Gulf Coast clinic in Alabama, called Bayou Clinic.
“When people couldn’t pay, she didn’t charge them,” Obama said about his nominee. “When the clinic wasn’t making money, she didn’t take a salary for herself.”
Obama Picks Surgeon General-Dr. Regina Benjamin and he calls Dr. Regina Benjaminm “a relentless promoter” of programs to fight preventable illness.
Dr. Regina Benjamin is an American hero in my book. Not the Sarah Palins of the world. This is one Baby Boomer to be proud of.
