Flight 447 UPDATE:41 Bodies Found as French Submarine “Emeraude” Joins the Hunt For Wreckage And Black Box, Wednesday, June10th, 2009, as Brazilian air force and navy crews continued to pull bodies from Air France Flight 447 and the Atlantic Ocean.
France continues to lead the investigation into what caused last week’s accident when the Paris bound Flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro plunged into the sea off the Brazilian coast with 228 passengers and crew members Along with on board.
Flight 447 UPDATE:41 Bodies Found As French Submarine Joins the Hunt For Wreckage And Black Box, with close to 400 French military in tow, French Submarine “Emeraude” joined the search Wednesday morning, June 10th, 2009. The French salvage effort includes two tugs towing 40 tons of recovery equipment, a surveillance ship and a ship equipped for amphibious operations.
In the air, there are fourteen aircrafts; 12 Brazilian and two French are participating, along with five Brazilian ships. The U.S. Navy will contribute two high tech acoustic devices to listen underwater for the emergency beacons that are attached to the voice and data recorders.
The “towed pinger locators,” will search for the emergency beacons on Flight 447 to a maximum depth of 6,000 meters (20,000 feet). The ping lovators will be placed aboard the French tugs.
Brazil has taken the task of finding and the French are in charge of finding the voice and data recorders.
Brazilian officials state that, “the plane debris will be taken to France for investigation but the bodies would undergo forensic tests in Recife.
