Ocean Liner Titanic’s Last Survivor-Millvina Dean 97 Has Died. The historical Titanic was the largest passenger steamship and was dubbed unsinkable but on it’s maiden voyage from Southampton in southern England to New York. It sank April 14, 1912, when it hit an submerged iceberg, killing more than 1,500 people.

Millvina Dean was only an infant when the RMS Titanic sank and perhaps the reason she is the last survivor of that fateful voyage.

Brian Ticehurst, a personal friend of Millvina Dean, stated that Millvina died at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 31st, 2009, in her nursing home.

Charles Haas a friend and President of the Titanic International Society based in New Jersey, states that “Millvina Dean was hospitalized a few days ago for medical complications before returning to the Woodlands Ridge Nursing Home in Southampton.”

Haas continued saying that “Ms. Dean’s last public appearance was at the British Titanic Society’s convention in April, which she attended with her longtime companion, Bruno Nordmanis. She only visited a short while, but she wowed everybody with her charm. She seemed in good spirits.”

Ocean Liner Titanic’s Last Survivor-Millvina Dean 97 Has Died and it was just last month on April 17th, 2009 that BBAC posted “LAST Titanic Survivor Auctioning Off Titanic Memorabilia To Pay Nursing Home Fees.” At age 97, Millvina Dean, was trying to raise money so she can stay in the nursing home she prefers.

The auction, which is expected to raise up to $50,000 for her, is set to take place Saturday near her home in England. It was the second auction in less than a year for Millvian Dean, who was only 9 weeks old when the ship sank on its maiden voyage in 1912.

Special Note: Millvina Dean’s death fell on May 31, exactly 98 years after the Titanic was launched.

    This is the kind of lady that would love to hug and hear all of the stories she would tell.

    Now that she is on the otherside of the curtain my mom and she are going to have great conversations I wish I were there everyday.
