Passengers From Flight 1549 Get Personal Possessions Back from Hudson River. I am sure you remember the plane that went down in the Hudson River on January 15th, 2009 and pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and his crew saved the day by saving all, on board Fight 1549.

It’s passengers are getting their personal property and baggage back from US Airways. They hired Global-BMS, a Texas based company that recovers and restores items from large disasters.

How amazing is that? I am still awaiting my luggage from Continental Airlines and I can not tell you how many time I have had luggage lost, only to have it returned weeks after I landed back home and only then, after numerous calls.

To help return personal items to its passengers, US Airways hired Global-BMS, a Texas-based company that recovers and restores items from large disasters. The firm sorted through close to 30,000 items, meticulously cleaning and even freeze dried items till they could be processed and saved.

Global-BMS sorted through nearly 30,000 items from the flight, cleaning them in a slow, tedious process that often involved freeze-drying items to preserve them while they waited to be processed.

Of course, there are items that were returned to the 150 unsinkable travelers that were unusable after being submerged. Those would include electronic items like headphones and music players. But for most folks, personal effects showed some damage but were still good.
