Help Your Colon and Maybe Cut Down on Colon Growths By Losing Weight. Just that easy, cutting down on a few pounds not only will help you toward your ideal weight but also may cut down on colon growths.

Last week my brother-and-law had colon surgery. He is the best brother-in-law a gal could have and it is for him that I write this article.

Baby Boomers who are overweight tend to have a higher risk of developing colon growths. Colon growths are those pesky little benign tumors that stand a chance of turning cancerous.

Dropping those extra pounds will also drop the risk of colon growths.

Polyps

In a recent study of nearly 8,000 Japanese men, when their body mass index (BMI) went up, so did the number of colon adenomas, a kind of polyp that could become cancerous. After a year, when the men had trimmed down, it was found that they had a lower occurrence of polyps than the men who gained or maintained their weight.

The extra pounds may somehow encourage insulin resistance and chronic inflammation, two things thought to spur on cancerous cells.

When Should One Get Screened For Colon Cancer?

To be sure, once a year, but after watching a program on Discovery Health, on the colon, everyone should have their colon checked every year, starting at the age of 50. Afro-Americans are especially prone to colon cancer and it was said that they should start their exams at age 45.

What Can You Do For Extra Protection?

Be an overachiever! Add these other actions to your colon health to do list:
*1. Hit the pavement. A brisk walk 30 minutes a day may slow the growth of colon cells.
*2. Get your share of whole grains. The good for you nutrients in whole grains help keep your plumbing clear.
*3. Eat an apple a day. It might very well help keep colon cancer away.
*4. Maintaining your weight and body mass index at a desirable level.

There are many natural ways to have better colon health. These are specifically designed to help the body rid itself of accumulated waste such as mucous and undigested matter that can become built up in the colon.

A cleaning your colon eliminates waste toxins from being absorbed by your body and gives you a sense of increased energy. Some of the other potential benefits of a colon cleansing may include a decrease in gas or bloating, more radiant skin and hair, and an overall trimmer appearance.
