American Vasectomies Increase As The American Economy Worsens and just perhaps explains the sudden explosion in men asking for vasectomies? Perhaps it is the Octomom…or just the economy.

Statistics show an upswing around November for vasectomies as the economic crisis deepened. If you remember, October went down in the history books as one of Wall Street’s worst months.

Clinic are seeing a 50 percent increase in vasectomies, an outpatient surgery that is the cheapest form of permanent birth control for men and couples. Vasectomies are less invasive and cheaper than tubal ligation, which involves blocking, tying or cutting a woman’s fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy.

A portion of vasectomy patients are getting the surgery because they were losing their jobs and health insurance, or concerned about being out of work soon and realize they don’t have the financial security long term with what’s going on.

How Is A Vasectomy Done?

The doctor cuts the two vas deferens, which are the tubes carrying sperm from the testicles to become semen. After the procedure, men can still have sex, but their semen does not contain sperm and therefore they can no longer father children.

The down side of a vasectomy is that Doctors can attempt to reverse the procedure, but vasectomy reversals are expensive and only work half the time in restoring sperm flow.

There is the No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV). It is a simple, gentle and elegant office procedure that many studies show has significant advantages over conventional vasectomies. NSV is comparatively faster, has a swifter recovery time, is safer (one eighth the rate of bleeding and infection) and can be virtually pain free.

Thumbs up to the men out there who are stepping up to the bat. There have been a 48% increase in vasectomies since November 2008.

Men are stating that they can’t afford to have children or more children in this economy. Perception is that it’s more of the concept of raising children in an uncertain economic future.

March Madness has turned into Vas-Madness. It is a case of Vasectonomics verses Economics.

With the economy, some people will postpone having children. A lot of men and couples after having a vasectomy have already made a bigger decision to never have another child.

When people stop having children, it implies a loss of confidence in their future employment prospects and as economic times have worsened, people are concerned about their ability to raise larger families and are opting for more permanent birth control.
