Fish Pedicures Require Live Flesh Eating Fish-Should They Be Banned

Fish Pedicures Require Live Flesh Eating Fish-Should They Be Banned? Fish Pedicures already are in 21 US states and Florida is one of those states, so I doubt that I will be able to experience one.

Fish pedicures, done by one inch long garra rufa and chin chin fish, imported from Turkey, Russia, Malaysia , Singapore, China and Japan…have been deemed by several states as being unsanitary.

The fish don’t seem to mind sucking the dead skin from people’s feet however. It sounds awfully ticklish to me.

The main issue is whether the fish, also commonly known as doctor fish, reddish log sucker and nibble fish, present a health hazard to customers because grooming tools used on salon clients are required to be disinfected. There’s really no way to disinfect a fish and how do they change the water each time with out killing the fish? I do not think I would want to put my feet in water that another person had their feet cleaned of dead skin in.

Apparently the fish pedicures are ticklish, so how can you relax. The fish pedicure is said to feel like a mild electrical current on your skin, and the purpose is to smooth the feet and relax the customer. Is that an oxie moron?

There is, of course, several animal rights groups up in arms about the fish in general, but the overall concern has to do with how sanitary the practice is. Some can’t see how fish can be unsanitary. Bur what goes in a fish must come out a fish, at some time or another. Personally, that gives this Baby Boomer the willies. It is natural though and I am always saying “Natural Is Better.”

Or if it is sanitary should it be up to the patron? Once again Big Brother has his nose in the machinery.
