Altovise Joanne Gore Davis 65-Wife of Sammy Davis Jr. Has Died…Altovise died Saturday, March 24Th, 2009 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She had been admitted two days earlier after suffering a stroke. She died from complications from her stroke.

She was a dancer and actress from Brooklyn, New York, met Sammy Davis Jr. on the set of the musical “Golden Boy” in London in 1967. The couple were both working in Golden Boy and married three years later. They were married for over 20 years and had an adopted son.

The marriage with Altovise was Sammy Davis Jr.’s third marriage. The couple was married by Rev. Jesse Jackson in a Philadelphia Court House on May 11Th, 1970. The couple remained together until he died of throat cancer in 1990.

Long-saddled with tax problems following the death of her husband, Altovise Davis’ name was included in 2008 on the California Franchise Tax Board’s list of top 250 delinquent taxpayers with $2,708,901.75 in unpaid personal income tax.

Funeral services will be held in Burbank, California, with the date and time to be announced later.

Sammy Davis Jr. was a musician, was famous for being part of the Rat Pack, which included Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. He was very active in the civil rights movements.

Altovise became very active with several philanthropic organizations in Los Angeles. She gave of herself and performed at many benefit programs, particularly for SHARE Inc., which is a nonprofit group that raises money for developmentally disabled, abused and neglected children.
