Dog Cloning-Florida Couple Get First Commercially Dog Cloned for $155000.00…Every dog has his day…as the saying goes, but some dogs like Sir Lancelot, or at least his carbon copy gets a second chance through cloning.
Edgar and Nina Otto show off 10 week old, Lancey, a clone who they say is “the most human of any dog they’ve ever had.”
The Boca Raton, Florida, couple paid a California firm $155,000 to clone their beloved Labrador retriever, who died from cancer a year ago. Lancey, was hand delivered to the Otto’s earlier this week by Lou Hawthorne, chairman of BioArts International, a biotechnology company.
The couple started thinking about having his DNA frozen Sir Lancelot about five years ago. So, that is what they did.
“I said ‘Well, you know, it wouldn’t hurt to have his DNA frozen,’ and that’s what we did.”
The Ottos were one of five families to bid and win a BioArts auction for a chance to clone their family dog at BioArts.
Lancey is the world’s first commercially cloned dog, the company said; the Ottos are the first of six current clients to receive their clone.

That is a truly startling, possibly amazing development. I’m wondering if the standard capitalist protocol of critical mass means eventually we’ll be able to get a replacement for our buddy for about $299.00.
The technology for the first DVD player probably cost much more than $155 grand, so why not? There’s probably 150 million dog owners in North America alone.
I ponder the ramifications though…it’s like pretending death doesn’t exist in a way, and I guess this means it doesn’t have to.
I do not believe in this at all I don’t care how much money you have at all that has nothing to do with this at all.
There are so many animals out there are looking for good homes that would be exactly like what they had that it is sad to see this happening and that is a fact.
That dog could die earlier from cancer than their orginal dog but they had the money to do what they did.
This is against Mother Nature and she gets very upset when people do these kind of things and that is a fact.
