A New Orleans Dad Kills Toddler Son-When Ordered To Pay Child Support. The Dad initially told authorities that gunmen kidnapped his son. He is now in custody because “he” killed his 2 1/2 Year Old Toddler Son, Just So He Did Not Have to Pay Child Support.

New Orleans, Police Superintendent, Warren Riley said that the Toddlers’ father, Danny Platt, age 22, confessed to the murder and has told authorities where to find the child’s body. Platt will be booked with first degree murder of Ja’ Shawn Powell, Platt’s 2 1/2 year old son.
Platt recently stated that, “he would kill either his wife or his child before he paid child support.” Which he recently had been court ordered to do.
The amount of child support is not known at this moment. Nor the method of the slaying. Police are not disclosing that right now. They are waiting for the coroner to give those findings after the autopsy is complete.
“The mother of Ja’ Shawn is in a safe place,” Riley said.
Platt who had full visitation rights, had never visited the boy until he picked him up Friday, Riley said.
Authorities put out a missing persons notice on Ja Shawn, asking people to look for the boy. Platt’s was then stating, that three men with dreadlocks and AK-47 rifles had piled out of an SUV and kidnapped Ja’ Shawn shortly before midnight on Friday night. Personally, I think that story has more holes to it than Sponge Bobs’ Square Pants…Well, the police didn’t fall for it either.

Police Superintendent, Warren Riley said, “His story never really added up, he was a suspect from the very beginning.”
Riley said Platt eventually confessed and told officers where to find Ja’ Shawns’ little body. Platt had only a couple of “very minor” previous arrests, he said. Not murder or even an assault case. Where did he go wrong.
“How does an individual, because he’s ordered to pay child support to take care of a kid … believe that this is so much pressure that he would face, he would do this hideous act to his own child, or to any child, and think that is a remedy to paying child support?” Riley said. “I mean there are some sick individuals in this society, and this gentleman is clearly one.”
The Dad who initially told authorities that gunmen kidnapped his 2 1/2 year old son, is now in custody for his murder, where he does not have to pay child support.
BBAC sends their condolences out to Ms. Powell for the senseless lose of her son and the rest of Ja’ Shawn’s family and friends.

This is terribly sad story an innocent child losing his life because he was born.
There is any amount of things that they can do to this father for what he did short of just killing out right but that won’t fix it either because two wrongs never make a right and that is a fact.
The only thing that really concerns me is copy cat murders of the same kind when this breaks on the news. I would guess this kind of thing happen more than is spoken about but this is just so awful I don’t have the words and that is a fact.
MAY GOD BLESS THE FAMILY THAT IS GOING THROUGH THIS HORRIBLE TIME NOW AND FOREVER AS I AM SURE HE WILL!!!
Sad story and it was a really good article until is turns personal. By that i mean, take a look at paragraph 9…”Here is Danny Platts’ picture. This is what a man looks like that would rather take his sons life then support his life”, this doe not fit, in fact it can be damaging to a select group of individuals, in this case young African American men. I don’t get to connection. Please avoid injecting your personal feeling and stick with the facts only.
Now I am a bit curious about the true intent of the article. What are you really trying to say? Could it be that you are covertly trying to tell us that when we see an African American male we are looking a man who would rather kill than obey the law? Hmm…

The only damage to any “group of individuals” my statements would affect is those who “do not want to take care of their children, so-called dead beat parents.”
If Danny Platt were Chinese, Hispanic or just a plain caucasian, grit and gravy eating Southerner…it wouldn’t matter to me. HE killed his child because he didn’t want to pay child support. THAT is the issue. Young African American men do not hold the market on being the only deadbeat dads. The Demographics would surprise you as to who they are.
And before you point a racist finger at me, perhaps you should know what my heritage is.
All through the Internet there are sites and questions of parents asking how can they get out of making their child support payments. How can they weasel out of their financial responsibility…
I personally know a man who has 6 children with 5 different women and he doesn’t pay child support on any of them. If you met him you would think he is a nice enough guy. But how NICE can anyone be who doesn’t take care of their children? Their own flesh and blood. Not enough money??? Well, that should have been a thought process before the first child was born and surely before the second child was born.
Danny Platt never used his visitation rights with his son before he killed him. He swore he would never pay child support. He would kill the child or his mother first. I can only assume that he chose to kill the child because there might be a chance he would have to take care of the son if his Mother was gone.
If you wish to defend this man, fine…if you want to pull the racist card fine…but you and I both know that anyone who could kill their own flesh and blood over money is a lost soul, it doesn’t matter what color their skin is…they are only human beings in my book.

I think you missed my point. My comments has nothing to do with Mr. Platt, i was simply attempting to give you a bit of advice. But based on your response it apparent you choose to remain focused on the disgusting actions of Mr. Platt.
What Mr. Platt did was terribly wrong, but it not for me or you to judge him that is solely up to God. My concern is for the victims, which includes you.
I truly hope your anger diminish at some point. Prayer always works for me. Have a wonderful day.

I think that it is ashamed that a sorry young man would do something like that…If you don’t want a child dont have sex without protection….he should have life in jail or have the death penalty….He should suffer and someone should stick something up his butthole….I just feel sorry for the mother and i would just beat the crap out of him….He deserves to suffer and his private part should be chopped off…..He deserves to go to HELL!!!!
At the end of the day, while this is a so sad an tragic story, I do see where this guy is comming from and I do almost understand why he did it. If he were smart he would’ve done something to the mother and not his child. That way, he could have been with his child and the child would be supported. Look once the State is a part of you family, everything must go downhill from there. I’ll get back to that in a second. But look, I am from what some ppl would call “The hood” and I can tell you that in the hood, this child support thing is real serious. If a woman puts child support on a man, she is look upon as a “snitch” She in then dealt with as you would deal with a snitch. If a man doesn’t take care of his children, and the mother is forced to snitch on him, then he is looked a as a bum and no women will be bothered with him. I know quite a few men, who have done things to thier baby mom’s over child support. Like if you had to pay $200 per week in CS support, what most men would do is simply slash the baby moms tires, or smash the windshield. I know one man, who had some kids wait for his baby mom to come home from work on pay day and rob her blind. lol. It’s not funny but if you were there and saw how oblivious she was to why it was happening to her you would laugh too. That one just tickles me because when he was telling me what was about to happen as we sat across the street in his car, I just didn’t believe it, then it just happened. LOL. What I’m saying is that alot of men will make sure that the money doesn’t get to the mother’s pocket. They make sure that she has to put the money somewhere else, on some other expense other than her extra curricular expenses. You must get at the mother, not the child because in most CS cases, the mother gets and spends the money on herself not the child, so the child is not to blame. The funny thing is that many men are already supporting their children, it’s just that they don’t pay the crippling amount the state demands they pay or go to jail. Child support is un fair, bottom line and that’s it. Every man on CS thinks of doing something to the mother or the kid, but not everybody acts on it. The world seems shocked by what this guy did, but this isn’t not the 1st time someone has done that, and it won’t be the last. If you look, you will find that last year, well 27, a man pushed his 4 year old off a cliff to avoid CS. Again he should have pushed his Child mother off the cliff, but morons will be morons. I mean c’mon, Both of these clowns killed the child and didn’t solve the problem. Ok, you had two dead kids, but two live and fertle woman who have already tasted child support. I guarantee the both will be pregnant by 2010, and both will be collecting CS by 2012 or earlier.

I have lived in the “hood” on several occasions and I can tell you now, that two wrongs do not make a right…woman or child. And people like your friend that you sat in the car with…and watched them rob his x-girlfriend…they live on the hope that no one will call the police or retaliate.
If I had been there…I would have been hitting them over the head with my purse or cane, then sitting on them with my big butt till the police came, lecturing the whole time. I am not one to sit around and do nothing. So you two would have been peeing in your pants from laughing, watching me stop the robbery.
ALL of this would have been avoided if safe sex had been used. In an age where you can sex and die from it…you would think that every one would want to use condoms or abstinence.
There is no way that you can justify what either one of these two men did.
People…If you don’t wasn’t child support payments then don’t have sex or use safe sex.
Cave man tactics…if they were used on me…I would be someone your Momma should have warned you about! Play the dozen call it what ever you want, your ass would be mine.
This type of behavior is not acceptable. Not today, not tomorrow and not yesterday…
Categorizing people who live in the “hood,” just isn’t right because you can rise above situations and issues. Otherwise you just continue to perpetuate them.
Your friends who you hang out with that do these dirty deeds…be careful of the company you keep, you will counted as one of them. I could not sit by and watch an un-justice. It makes you as bad as they are for allowing it
Have you ever seen crabs in a bucket, Dawud? They all just scurry around in the bottom. None of them trying to get out. Then you will see one crab try to craw out and up the sides of the bucket…what do the other crabs do? They pull him back down into the bucket…instead of trying to climb up on his back to get out…they pull him back in the pile and don’t let him escape.
Quit hanging out with crabs in a bucket, Dawud…they will only pull you back down with them and that is where you will stay until you die.
My advise…stay away from all crabs in a bucket…they do not have your best interests at heart. Be a better person. Make your mother proud of you.
