UPDATE on Murphy The Dog Who Was Beated With A Hammer

Today, One of our BBAC readers asked for an UPDATE on “Murphy the Dog”. So, let’s end 2008 with some good news and start the New Year off with some the same…

Murphy the dog who was beaten with a hammer is doing really good.

We called the good humans over at the “Pets are People Too” clinic. One of their kind staff members, told us that Murphy, the dog had just been in today…and was doing really well.

His wounds and surgery are healing nicely and he is in over all good health. Even with out he use of one eye. Of course Murphy still has a few problems and probably will. Getting beaten in the head with a sledge hammer and left for dead is not going to leave you the same tail wag.

Murphy is going to be the Chick-fil-A Parade, Honoree, in Atlanta for the New Year Day Parade. The Parade will showcase his amazing recuperation as part of the Chick-fil-A Bowl parade, Wednesday, in downtown Atlanta.

Murphy will walk with the Golden Retriever Rescue of Atlanta as part of the 1.25-mile parade from the Georgia Dome to the World Congress Center.

Robert Kennedy, who found the 9-year-old dog near death in Murphey Candler Park in Dunwoody Dec. 2, 2008, is now Murphys’ foster owner. He also has two golden retrievers that he already planned to bring to the parade.

“He’ll be a retriever for a day,” Kennedy said. Kennedy at first though he would have to wheel Murphy, who remains somewhat wobbly after the attack, but did not suffer permanent brain damage. But Kennedy has taken Murphy on hikes with his other dogs, Stella and Charlie, and the injured dog has managed even longer walks than the parade route.

Murphy is still living with the good Samaritan, Robert Kennedy and other house canines, Stella and Charlie.

At this moment, Murphys medical bills are up to date and any monies that are left, will be given to the DeKalb Country Animal Cruelty Task Force.
