Eartha Kitt the Infamous Cat Woman and Singer Dies At Age 81, after a battle with colon cancer. The world lost the one and the only Eartha Kitt on Christmas Day, 2008.

The fact that Eartha Kitt died on Christmas, mandates that we have to mention her singing “Santa Baby.” It has always been one of my Holiday songs. Thank you Eartha.

Eartha Kitt was the Holly Berry of the 60′s, in my book. She was beautiful, sexy and she could act and sing. I don’t think I have ever heard Holly Berry sing, but she would never make the ranks of Ertha Kitt, even if she did.

Perhaps Orson Wells best said it, “Eartha Kitt is the most exciting woman in the world”.

First, and perhaps most notably to Baby Boomers, Eartha lent her delicious purr to its most inevitable use when she took over the role of Catwoman, from Julie Newmar on Batman in the 1960s. Here’s a clip of Eartha, at full seductive powers…as Batman confides to Robin, “She may be evil, but she is attractive.”

How could anyone not love her smoky voice.

Eartha was finally honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 1960. How ever, what I admired her most for is her outspoken candor about the Vietnam War. She became infamous for speaking out against American involvement in the Vietnam War while she was at a White House luncheon in 1968. Her career suffered for almost 10 years after that. Not from me…I still continued to buy her albums.
