Mrs. Obama, who is often compared to former First Lady and style icon, Jackie Kennedy. There are those who openly criticized her election night attire as she donned an attention-grabbing red and black Narciso Rodriguez shift dress. Mrs. Obama has said to wear sporty, modestly priced labels like J.Crew, and Donna Rico, and favors local Chicago designer Maria Pinto. But inauguration day could call for an elegant gown. Sharon,
President elect Obama is right and appropriate of course in selecting a classic, well fitting quality tux—Hart Schaffner Marx is a suit manufacturer (not a designer)that has been around for decades.
Michelle Obama is probably going to opt for something stylish but also not overly expensive brand (unless this occasion proves the exception). Michelle seems to like clothes–but it doesn’t absorb her.It amazes me that she is compared –in style– or in any way to Jackie O. Jackie was defined by her love of high-end style and European couture. She spent a lot of time and money in pursuit of beautiful style. I’m not sure Jackie would be a woman for today’s time. Michelle Obama is.
My work as a style consultant has made me acutely aware of how desperately our present culture needs better style information and examples to follow.
