The German shepherd-collie mix, now called Murphy, was able to stand up on his own and spent most of the day, Thursday out of his cage.
Which is more than I can say for the “suspect,” Joseph “Joe” Waters, who was a arrested in this brutal animal abuse case, where Murphy was beaten in the head with a SLEDGE hammer.
Water’s excuse is that Murphy was poisoned and he was putting him out of his misery. Water’s is still in his cage.
I bet if Atlanta had to make a good guess, as to who had poisoned Murphy, I think I know who they would choose! Those Toxicology reports will show if Murphy was poisoned or not…
Murphy the Dogs, Vet, Dr Pope said that “He’s made some good progress-It’s really been amazing.”
Joseph “Joe” Waters, 48, the man that police say smashed Murphy the dog, in the head with a sledge hammer, remains in the DeKalb County Jail on a felony count of animal cruelty. Waters is being held under $25,000 bail. He remains in “HIS” cage.
Murphy, meanwhile, got out of “HIS” cage and was stretching his legs and even gave the staff at the animal hospital, VCA “Pets are People Too” clinic an occasional tail wag. Good Boy, Murphy.
Murphy spent most of the day hanging out in the clinic office, though staff said he was placed back in his kennel to be hooked up to IV lines, since he isn’t eating yet. This will keep him form being dehydrated. Maybe, poor little Murphy has forgotten how to eat since he has a head injury. Well, you know dogs, they will eat when they are ready.
Because of the shock, veterinarians are worried he may have trouble keeping food down. He was not yet eating on his own early Thursday evening, but nice staff at the animal clinic said, “that was to be expected. He is out on his own, seems to be able to see out of his good eye and is recovering nicely.”
Robert Kennedy, the good Samaritian was walking his own dogs in Murphy Candler Park, found Murphy the dog with a severe head wound Tuesday morning. The assault weapon, a bloody sledgehammer was found near the dog, who was in shock and appeared dead.
DeKalb police Investigators are still looking for people who may have seen something unusual in the park Monday night or Tuesday morning.
The good Samaritain, Robert Kennedy, who plans to adolpt Murphy the dog, told the clinic that he would pay for the animal’s medical bills. The cost has already exceeded $3,000 and will probably reach $6,000.
Will the little abused dog Murphy ever be right…can you imagine his head aches? Murphy only has one eye left but the hospital reports he seems to be seeing out of the sole eye.

It seems that Murphy the Dog beaten with a hammer is going to make it, Baby Boomers. But lets keep those prayers and good thoughts coming for Murphy. MASSIVE head injuries are really tricky.

WAKE UP AMERICA…….It is a proven fact that serial killers start off maiming animals as children…..how long has asshole Waters (I won’t even adress him as Mr.) been hurting animals, and what has he done to people. America needs to tighten thier justice system!!!! People who intentionally kill and maim animals and humans should be KILLED. I am tired of tax payers money letting these monsters have luxuries in prison that hard working americans can’t afford, like health care and 3 meals a day. I bet if we quit spending money on those psychos, we wouldn’t be in debt as a nation!!!!!!
My Great Danes and Pit Bulls would LOVE to meet Joseph Waters, they couldn’t use a sledge hammer on him, but they would love to rip his head to shreads with their massive teeth!!!!!!

Murphy’s story has reached all the way down to South Florida. God Bless Mr. Kennedy, Murphy’s resquer. I would like to see the offender put in a cage with a few, viscious, starved pit bulls!! He does not deserve to live on this planet with human beings. His problem is INcurable, I’m certain. Hell awaits his arrival.

No they should hit him twice in the head with a hammer-so that he looses his eye-leave in the park for some good Samaritan to find. But I doubt that 38,000 would come rolling in to pay his medical bills…
Hopefully, inmates treat dog beaters the same way that they treat child molesters in prison. Hopefully his cell mate was a big guy named Bubba, that had a dog just like Murphy the dog!

Yes, it was his past owner. He claims that he thought that the dog had been poisoned and he was trying to put the dog out of his misery. He got a year jail time for what he did to Murphy.

Did Murphy get beaten back in 2008? I just heard about it. I see what comment dated 12/31/08. Also, I am glad he is ok and will be adopted by Mr. Kennedy. I too thank Mr. Kennedy for saving him.
I feel awful about him losing an eye though. How did this happen with him being beaten on the head with the hammer? This is very disturbing to me.
However, thank God he is alive & well. Praise God. I hope Joe Waters gets enough time in jail and am glad this is a felony.
Justice won’t be served unless he gets a long enough punishment and hefty fine.
