Veteran Frank Woodruff Buckles considered it his duty to represent his fellow soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day.

Frank Woodruff Buckles, age 107 is Americas last WWI Veteran. Frank said, “it was his duty to represent his fallen soldiers. “I have to, because I’m the last living member of Americans who fought in what was called The Great War.”

Americas last WWI Veteran, attended ceremonies Tuesday at the grave of Gen. John Pershing, the top U.S. commander of WWI.

Frank Buckles was present for the first Armistice Day, in 1918, it marked the end of WWI. Now Armistice Day is called Veterans Day.

Americas last WWI Veteran, Frank Woodruff Buckles, was warmly greeted and welcomed with standing applause by those in uniform and others who had gathered for the commemoration. Here is the video of his interview.

According to an autobiography about Americas last WWI Veteran, Frank Woodruff Buckles, released this year by the Pentagon…Frank Buckles, civilian, was eager to join the war. Although only 16, in the summer of 1917, he lied about his age to get into the armed services. To see more of his service in the war go to CNN News.

A few decades later,in 1941 Frank Woodruff Buckles was in the Philippines as a civilian, on December 10Th, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. He was taken as a prisoner of war in Manila and held for 39 months.

Today Americas Last WWI Veteran, Frank Woodruff Buckles is the symbolic leader of a drive to improve a run down city owned memorial on the National Mall for those lost in the World War I. The structure which is only gazebo style, was built in the 1930s.
