Mayo Clinic’s recent study with Baby Boomer Women has shown a significant rise in Rheumatoid Arthritis Cases. This occurrence started in the mid-1990s. Rheumatoid Arthritis had been in decline from 1955-1994.

But now the rate of Rheumatoid Arthritis in the overall population has increased from 0.85 percent to 0.95 percent. You might not think that is a significant percentage but if you were one of the Baby Boomer Women who is challenged by this disease, your thoughts would be different. I am one of those Baby Boomer Women. In Fact, I am 56 and a half years old and that is where the highest level of Rheumatoid Arthritis affecting Baby Boomer Women, came up in this study.

So, you see I fit the baby boomer demographics. I have Lupus. LUPUS is an arthritis type of disease. It is s member of the Arthritis Family. It not only affects your joints and bones, it can also attack your organs and your immune system. And I do believe that I am a product of my environment.

The findings are just now coming in and the study was only on a small number of people. I believe that the numbers will come in higher when more studies are done. Because I believe that both the incidence and prevalence of Rheumatoid Arthritis were rising. I sit and watch people my age (remember, I am 56) going about their everyday life and I see many men and women crippled, limping, their backs bowed, their hands gnarled.

Mayo Clinic has not found the reason for the increase. But researchers are suggestion at this stage of the game that environmental factors may play an important role in the rise of the joint disease among women.

Of course I am not a scientist, but I firmly believe that the reasons are two fold, that which has caused our demise with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Our environment and that fact that our group of women had to work because of the economy, to keep our homes going. There were lots of single Moms who had children to support and worked two jobs. Most of our Mothers did not work. Most stayed home with the children. Many of us have done a mans work, worked all day and then came home to do our job there as well.
