BAD Oral Health-BAD Health
If you have respiratory disease, diabetes or had a heart attack or stoke…you might have chronic gum disease.

When I was a child, my Father always said take care of your teeth, it is the only set you have and they are the gateway to your health. At that age I didn’t know what he meant. I just knew I had better brush my teeth because it sounded like a world of trouble to me.
Mounting evidence is now showing a link between chronic gum disease and a host of serious medical problems…from heart disease and strokes, to diabetes and respiratory disease.
Next time you’re evaluated for the risk of heart disease, don’t be surprised when your doctor pulls out a tongue depressor and says, “Say ‘ah.’ He isn’t just looking at your tonsils or to see if you have a sore throat. They are looking to see if you are at risk for heart disease.
Dentists say, ” if you want to see how a persons health is, look in their mouth, because bacteria shed by chronic oral infections, can spread throughout the bloodstream and contribute to disease in your heart and other parts of the body. “That my friends, is a very serious matter.”
Researchers now believe that chronic gum infections may trigger a chain of chemical events that causes inflammation and swelling through out the entire body. So, when plaque lining the arteries becomes inflamed, blood clots can form, leading to heart attack or stroke. This makes people with periodontal disease almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease as those who don’t. Plus, with gum disease, your heart conditions can worsen.
University of Minnesota School of Public Health found that tooth loss caused by gum disease may be an early warning sign of cardiovascular disease. Tooth plaque can mean health plaque. If you have diabetes, then it will be harder for you to control the level of your your blood sugar.
Baby Boomers who are uncovered, with out insurance are at the greatest at risk, as they do not have the ability to have proper dental care.
In 2000, yes, 8 years ago, more than a third of all Americans, that was about 108 million people, in 2000, did not have dental insurance. Those figures have risen in 8 years. Two and a half times that number did not have any insurance coverage, period. You can bet those figures have risen in eight years.
We as Baby Boomers are the ones greatest at risk. Only 60% have dental coverage though employers and most of us will lose that, when we retire. And when do you have the most problems with your teeth…as you get older.
Medicare does not cover routine dental care. That makes our health care in huge “state of decay.” In most states Medicaid doesn’t either. When Congress established the two health programs in 1965, life expectancy was shorter than it is today. As you know 50 is the new 40…And many Americans who’d lived long enough to be eligible for the programs had already lost all their teeth.
Wouldn’t it be lovely if the federal government would take care of its people…but instead they are taking 700 BILLION dollars and giving it to the rich! 700 billion in health care would save in the end. The only way to fight this is through prevention. Medicare and Medicaid is not the answer. Remember to brush and floss. For 60-65% of Baby Boomers, it might be your only hope. Don’t forget to vote Baby Boomers…for the last EIGHT years noting has changed POSITIVE…remember! Vote for change.
~The Baby Boomer Queen~
Don’t forget your four legged friends, They get teeth and gum diseases too. Especially smaller dogs. Get their teeth cleaned regularly or they will face the same bad health as humans.
As people get older their teeth change in color. Improper care, enameling, smoking, coffee, wine, years of wear and tear, take its toll. If you would like whiter teeth in days, no dentist visit and fight tooth decay with Xylitol. IvoryWhite can benefit you.
