I would just like to add this…
If you have a stiff neck or neck pain…
This is what has helped me…
These are my health tips for how to relieve neck pain…

* Get a new bed. I seldom had a neck problem once I got a Contour Bed.

* I really didn’t need a pillow after I got the adjustable bed. But, I did get a contour pillow to make sure my head and neck were properly supported.

* I have an neck exercise that I do several times a day…but it is actually only needed once…Take your neck and tilt it to the right side as far as it will go and to the right side as far as it will go. No strain just let it slide from one side to the other. Do this 20 times, that is twenty times with each shoulder. It has made the world of difference to me.

* While on your computer…only work 45 minutes and get up and walk around stretch especially your neck and drink water. Most people do not drink enough fluids.

* Do what I call “Secretary Rolls,” let you head roll to your chest, to your right side, to your back and then to your left side. This always helped remove my stiffness.

* Do not sleep on your sides, or stomach, only on your back. Your spine will love you for that.

* Do head stands…this one might not work for you, but it sure used to for me. Let gravity do it’s magic.

* Keep your computer and screen directly in front of you, not to the side where you have to twist you body or neck.
* Get a massage…my favorite.

Remember there is no PHD in in back or in front of my name. I am just The Baby Boomer Queen who tells you what works for me.

  1. In my practice, I see many people who get neck pain because they over-stretch their necks, so be careful. Stretch frequently, but don’t go so far to create micro-tears in the muscles. It’s a good idea to hold your head as you stretch, to give support to potentially weak muscles.

    And . . . . be extra careful with head stands. If you don’t have enough strength and discs are already thinning, you can actually collapse discs as the weight of the body on the neck is a lot.

    Here’s one my favorite neck exercises. Put your hand in front of your nose and draw circles with your nose on your hand. Go one way and then the other. Spiral in and out both ways. This loosens and strengths the suboccipital muscles at the base of the skull.
