Married But Sleeping Separately-Are You Doing It?

An older Country Western song used to go. “I Am Single, Sleeping In a Double Bed.” Now a days, it is, “I Am Married, Sleeping Single In A Double Bed.”

bed Married But Sleeping Separately Are You Doing It?

For the last thirty years married couples have started to sleep in separate beds and rooms. “Why.” you ask?

An increasing amount of Baby Boomers have sleep disorders. Such as sleep apnea, EXCESSIVE snoring, sleeping insomnia, the jerks or restless legs, tossing and turning, opposite schedules or other nocturnal difficulties. Making them impossible to sleep or rest with.

Couples are sleeping separate, to the rate increase of 12% in 2001, to 23% in 2005. That is a large percentage rate and scientists are blaming it on environmental issues. In March of 2008, an online survey of over 1400 couples conducted by the “Sleep Council of England,” found that 25% of those couples regularly sleep apart from their mate, to get a good night’s sleep.

Sleeping separate is also changing and affecting house designs. Now, TWO Master Bedroom Suites are being popular. Lifestyles are changing. It is a trend that has some scratching their heads and others applauding.

Some say that sleeping in separate beds in order to get a good night’s rest is both understandable and reasonable…but coming quite revolutionary.

Where on the other hand, some clinical psychologists and marriage counselors warn that sleeping separately could be trouble. These people never sleep with my X-husband. He was impossible to sleep with.

I say a good night sleep makes anyone HEALTHIER, happier, ready for the world and that significant other (wink). Times have changed from the 19TH Century, to now. You’ve come a long way Baby Boomer. I am in flavor of separate rooms and a common ground. I vote Yes. Though, I probably would NOT have said this in my youth.

I imagine you are wondering how it affects sex lives of married couples. But most couples studied, said that, “there are lots of ways to have a happy marriage, a good sex life and not sleep or stay in the same room together, with your significant other.”

So, I guess the big question is now…where do you meet, yours, mine or somewhere more exciting…
