I do not give my dog food from the stores. I make my own. She eats good and does not have lose stools. I am glad to hear that you do not give her meds. Like the modern western medicine...it is their way is to write a prescription to solve and fix anything from a headache, loose stool or a heart problem.

I am not a vet but I do give my dog vegetables and even though I am a vegetarian, I give she chicken. I can make a chicken go longer than a mom on food stamps with 5 hungry children. I have a couple of recipes in the recipe section for dogs and cats...I am also going to put up a Dog cookie recipe for Valentines Day. I hope to get it up tonight. Look for my "<a href="http://babyboomeradvisorclub.com/2008/06/21/baby-boomer-animal-crackers-cat-crackers-recipe/" rel="nofollow">animal crackers recipe</a>" .

Mix in vegetables into your dogs food...test them to see which ones that she likes. Peas, carrots, green beans, spinach, dark red kidney beans, but NO onions!

Southern smiles and dog paws,
Sharon

Hey guys, I have had pets, dogs, my whole life, at the age of 54 now, I'm finding that I have a new child, she is a Boxer now 8 months old, I'm having a terrible time trying to find food that doesn't make her have loose stools or diarea as far as that goes, I've tried Solid Gold ( she would not eat it--large breed puppy chow)I have tried Purina pup, wysong? -Wellness, Precise lg breed puppy really messes her up, and now I'm changing to Chicken Soup For The Soul Pup as we speak. Since she has been on Precise I'm mixing it to change her over. She gets only 3 cups a day, 1 &1/2 in the mornings and 1&1/2 in the evening. I'm at my witts end. I have never had this problem before and I've owned several breeds, however with that being said I have never had a Boxer before. Also everyone said to introduce her to Missing Link---NO. COULD NOT TOLORATE EVEN 1/4 teaspoon a day. So I would GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY IMPUT YOU COULD GIVE ME. I'm disabled so cooking for her is out. But I LOVE MY DAUGHTER AND I AM REACHING OUT TO ANYONE THAT CAN ADVISE ME HERE SINCE HER DR JUST GIVES HER MEDS FOR DIAREA AND WANTS ME TO GO WITH SCIENCE DIET,( naturally the vets sell it) so if anyone can give me a little imput I'd be ever so greatful, and so would "MEMORY ONE" & I call her " MEM".

I do not give my dog, Hannah, dog food. She eats what I do or chicken hot dogs or chicken that I prepare for her. Since I am a vegetarian, she gets a lot of vegetables and fruits. She does just fine not eating dog food or red meat.

I agree that Susan Peters is a total nut. You can find dog food that she says gets a 9 out of 10 for goodness and on another page she rates the exact same dog food as toxic to your dog. Not just once but many instances. Talk to your vet or better yet learn how to read the labels. I feed my old boy Blue Buffalo dry with Verus or Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers wet mixed in and he's 14, shiny, fit and acting like a puppy still.

Susan Peters is a nut. If anyone has read her postings on dog foods she has no clue how to read labels, talks a lot of nonsense and her opinion overlal is to be questioned. Also, there are products on the "safe" list that have been recalled (off the top of my head, Petcurean Pet Nutrition).

I make my own dog food with raw vegetables, canned Nature's Variety and brown rice. Was going to use the medallions in Nature's Variety but was told last year several dogs died from parasites found in the medallions. I put my dogs on homemade food to keep them from getting these problems, I just hope Nature Variety is safe to use.

"If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about the answers." -- Thomas Pynchon

There is a lot of confusion about a species appropriate diet for dogs. The “why” is that we have crossed the line between science and prolific industry propaganda. Since the 1950s vast sums of money have been poured into shaping public perception because the profits are enormous. Not to mention that “we the people” have a tendency towards anthropomorphism, and convenience is a driving force.

For unbiased scientific information see the “Ol’ Shep’s Plight: Diet”

My best to you and yours,
