July 18, 2008

Lemons are natural refreshers and all year round there are many ways to take advantage of their native natural properties.

Lemons have long had a prominent place in history. According to lore, the ladies of Louis XIV”s (1638-1715) court loved to bite lemons to keep their lips seductively red and the Romans, in their vast knowledge, valued lemons as an antidote to all poisons.

Here are some ways to take advantage of the fact that lemons are available year round.

Are There Effective Natural Cures For Acne?
By Guest Writer: Dr. Lisa Barger

It’s the most common skin disease in the United States, affecting nearly 50 million of us within any given year. Your doctor will call it acne vulgaris, but you’ll probably just call it acne.

Usually accompanied by redness, pimples and perhaps even cysts buried deep under the skin, acne is an inflammatory condition affecting the subaceous glands of the skin. While it’s more common in teenagers, acne can affect anyone at any stage of life. Read more

Microwaved Kitten-Edison-Recovering

July 16, 2008

WHO MICROWAVED EDISON, THE KITTEN?

This adorable six week old kitten, was thrown into a microwave July third. His name is Edison. He is now on the mend.

Edison’s ear tissue is dying off and needs to be removed, there are some burns on the top of his feet that being cleaning up, as well as two areas on the tail.

This is not the first act of animal abuse or human abuse, in Boston.

He is being treated by Dr. Kiko Bracker, of Angell Animal Medical Center. And Edison’s prognosis is good. It will be another two to four weeks before he is completely healthy.

Dr. Bracker cleans the the wounds and changes the dressings every day or every other day, when Edison is brought in. and the Doc says that Edison will ultimately be a happy and normal cat. He will look a little different, but he will have no idea that he looks any different from any other cat.

Thank you for fixing him up Doc. I am hoping that some of the Baby Boomers, who are animal and cat lovers will pitch in a couple of bucks to help you with the costs.

Donations are being accepted through the MSPCA~Angell’s General Fund to cover the cost of care. Click here to donate. Mailed donations are also being accepted and should be sent to: MSPCA~Angell General Fund, Zorro, Newton and Edison, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.

Now that all said…someone needs to step forward and tell who is responsible for this act of animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is one of the first steps to being a sociopath.

Come on Bostonians, step up to the bat…someone out there knows or saw this happen. It is not the first act of abuse to animals or humans!

The MSPCA is asking the public to contact its Law Enforcement Department, with any information regarding Edison’s case at 1.800.628.5808.

“Penny, who’s in the next bed to mine, had a visit one day this week from her daughter, who’s a professional singer. Guess what happened! She and I sang a happy song, as I do every day, and before long we were joined by several nurses, who sang along too. It was quite a concert!”
