FDA-Mexican Serrano Peppers-Found To Have Salmonella

FDA claims to have found the salmonella outbreak in the United States and Canada.

According to the FDA. the salmonella is coming from irrigation water and serrano peppers at a Mexican farm, in Mexico. Which is where the raw peppers came from, that were connected to the recent salmonella outbreak.

Dr. David Acheson, the FDA’s food safety chief, stated that “the farm is in Nuevo Leon, Mexico,” and called the discovery “a key breakthrough.”

Serrano peppers are a variety of chili pepper similar to jalapeños but hotter.

The salmonella outbreak, which has sickened more than 1,200 people since April, had been linked to raw Mexican jalapeños and serranos.

The people made sick by a strain called “Salmonella SaintPaul” were found in 43 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. At least 242 have been hospitalized, although federal health officials say only the elderly, infants and people with weakened immune system need to avoid raw peppers from Mexico.

Acheson was speaking Wednesday at a hearing intended to find out why the outbreak was originally linked by the government to tomatoes. Acheson has said that the science that suggested tomatoes may be to blame was strong and that the possibility some were contaminated still hasn’t been ruled out.

Last week, the FDA had said only Mexican-grown raw jalapeños and raw serrano peppers had been linked to the salmonella outbreak.

Mexican officials called those findings “premature,” even as the FDA issued an advisory stating that a contaminated jalapeño pepper originated in Mexico.

Earlier, the FDA announced it had discovered salmonella on a jalapeño imported from Mexico at The Agricola Zarigosa produce distribution center in McAllen, Texas.

The FDA said trace~back studies of food eaten by victims who became sick indicate the contaminated jalapeño pepper originated in Mexico.

Initially, tomatoes seemed the most likely source of the outbreak. The FDA told consumers to avoid certain raw tomatoes on June 7, prompting grocery chains and some restaurants nationwide to stop offering them.

Well now, here we have a case of mistaken identity…you say tomatoes I say tomatos.
The FDA still is not throwing the towel in on tomatoes being guiltless. Why you ask…they do not want to lose credibility. MEAN while, the tomato farms has lost their shirts.

I never stopped eating tomatoes. I support the farmers. I do not support the FDA!

FDA-Salmonella Alert-Was It Real

Remember Baby Boomers, Salmonella has to have an animal host. NOT a vegetable. Animals are what breeds salmonella. There might be an animal factory near by, but the peppers were not the root cause of the salmonella.

The agency subsequently lifted that ban, determining that tomatoes currently in fields and stores are safe and the FDA now advises consumers to avoid raw jalapeño peppers grown in Mexico and any foods containing raw jalapeño peppers grown in Mexico. And likewise, no one should eat raw serrano peppers from Mexico.

Cooked or pickled peppers from cans or jars are not part of the warning, Baby Boomers.

And no farmer is SAFE from the FDA, Mexico included!
